Any of you remember former Indiana Pacers coach, Dick Versace? I mean, really, think back to the late ’80’s and early ’90’s before the Pacers were a perennially good team (wow, those days seem like a long time ago). Well, Dick Versace had been recruited by the DCCC to run for Congress in the seat being vacated by the retirement of Illinois Republican Ray LaHood. In fact, the DCCC was so excited about his candidacy that he was the only Democrat to file his papers to run in that district.

Now he is dropping out. I guess his congressional run will be as storied and distinguished as his time coaching the Pacers.

From The Hill:

Former National Basketball Association coach Dick Versace has decided to drop out of the race to replace retiring Rep. Ray LaHood (R-Ill.), leaving Democrats without a candidate in a race they had hoped to make competitive.

Versace announced Friday in a statement that he was exiting the race “due to unforeseen personal circumstances,” but he did not provide details.
