[The Directors of Hoosier Access welcome this post from John McGoff on why he is backing Greg Zoeller for Attorney General.]

180px-johnmcgoff.jpgHaving gone through the GOP state convention proceedings in 2002 in my race for Secretary of State, I can assure you that it does not have to be a divisive process. Todd Rokita (SOS), Richard Mourdock (State Treasurer), Mike Delph (State Senator) and I were able to attend Lincoln Days, visit delegate homes and try to convince each of them that we were the best choice for the office. There was no undue influence by anyone and the convention delegates ultimately chose the best candidate. Secretary Rokita is a great public leader and has served us ably. Proof that when left to their own means, our Republican Party leaders will make the right choice and that it will be reaffirmed in November by the electorate. None of our state convention nominees have been defeated in recent general elections, despite some strong Democrat challengers.

Why am I backing Greg Zoeller for Attorney General? I have known him for nearly fifteen years both personally and professionally. In my two terms as Marion County Coroner and as a member of the Indiana State Medical Association, I have had occasion to seek counsel and advice from him in the AG’s office on multiple occasions. He has always been readily approachable, fair, and astute at trying to resolve the issues we brought to him. He has a diverse legal background with experience in private practice, strong business acumen as former President of the World Trade Center and vast political experience, including serving as the Assistant to the Vice President of the United States. But quite simply, Greg has the most experience in the AG’s office of the two candidates, as he currently serves as chief deputy and is the liaison to the National Association of Attorneys General. He is dedicated to his family and the State of Indiana and would be the ideal GOP candidate for Attorney General this fall. Have faith in our great party apparatus and let the GOP convention delegates do what they do best and after hearing from both candidates decide for themselves next Monday.

  1. Thanks for the post John, although you and I disagree on the best candidate for November, I appreciate your candor.

  2. I think that it goes a long way to have that coming from Mcgoff who was on one end of the republican spectrum (so to speak) while Burton was on the other. That should say something…

  3. Which Burton? I thought Woody endorsed Jon Costas.

  4. This would be Congressman Dan Burton he’s referring to. McGoff was his challenger in the recent primary.

  5. (I don’t think it’s accurate to say that John McGoff and Dan Burton are two ends of the Republican political spectrum. While they may here and there disagree on specifics, they strike me as two peas on the same end of the pod, with fairly inconsequential differences trumped up against each other for the purpose of contrast.)

  6. sorry, I should have qualified that better. That two people who were for the most part arch-rivals (too epic?) during the primary and now in agreement as to their choice for AG should say a lot…

  7. It says that Burton owed some favors in one place and McGoff somewhere else. It’s politics that’s all.

  8. Well, we can’t all be Porter County pod people.
