Latest update from our friends at the 2nd Amendment Patriots below.  I was told by many Hoosier Access readers that you joined the effort to call council members to support gun owners in South Bend.

South Bend’s Common Council threw in the towel Thursday on their proposal to ban firearms on city owned property, regardless if you had a license to carry.

The council has declared they will postpone indefinitely that proposal and will take steps to withdraw it entirely. The 2nd Amendment Patriots up there who are on this e-mail list are going to be at the council’s meeting tonight to make sure that happens. As soon as I get a report from them I’ll pass it on.

Now there’s already some stories on why they’ve abandoned that ridiculous idea, but I’m going to tell you the real truth. I know the real truth because I’ve been getting the phone calls from the council members. In fact, I got another one today.

One story that’s been printed in one of their local papers up there said it was because the local retired city police was not going to support it because it would have prohibited them from carrying on city property, too.

If that were true, the council would have simple exempted the retired police and still passed their ordinance and the retired city cops would have then supported it. They would have no problem that the regular American citizen would have their Second Amendment Rights violated.

No, the reason those council members dropped that idea like it was radio active was because of all those phone calls and e-mails that rained down on them from out of nowhere.

I read the e-mails you all sent me containing the correspondence between you and the council members and also the replies from the Chamber of Commerce.

That was the big hit, going after the Chamber of Commerce. The President, Mark Eagan and the Executive Director, Gary Wheat of the C of C did a magnificent job of dumping all the calls and letters they got from you in the Mayor’s lap.

Speaking of the Mayor, it’s been delightful getting the phone calls I’ve received from some of those council members and hearing them roll over on their mayor and city attorney and putting the blame on those two for hatching that idea.

The guys at the Chamber of Commerce understand economics. Their remarks about getting more calls than they ever had about anything and telling the Mayor to back off with that idea was exactly what I had hoped for.

It’s also gratifying when Mark Eagan said he couldn’t believe how many calls came from southern Indiana and even from Illinois. South Bend is at the northern most part of Indiana. They’re 300 miles from where we clean our guns down here in Evansville, but it doesn’t matter. There’s no place to run, no place to hide from the 2nd Amendment Patriots.

Thanks to all of the good people and groups here in Indiana who made this possible. You guys are tough.

If you know someone that you asked to help out and they didn’t, tell them you’ll give ‘em one more chance. There will be another chance because I feel trouble times are coming. But, you can tell them wannabe warriors that they’re getting heavy to carry. If they can’t cowboy up next time then they need to clear a path.

Even the real men back in 1775 had some free riders, I guess that’s why Sam Adams said,

“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands, which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”
(speech at the Philadelphia State House, August 1, 1776)

Thanks again to everyone who helped euthanize that poisonous infection. That kind of stuff spreads quickly. We also give thanks to God Almighty, our Creator, who helps in protecting the gifts he has bestowed on us.

The Supreme Court is expected to reveal their ruling on the Heller vs. D.C. case within the next few days. Good. We know what the Second Amendment says and means, that’s why we took on the South Bend Common Council.

I’m just concerned that the Justices may have too many “howevers” and reasonables” in their decision. I hope I’m wrong.

I got another call today, this one, from Indiana Representative Suzanne Crouch’s assistant asking if Suzanne can attend our 2nd Amendment Patriots September meeting, which will be on the 27th.

She wants to explain her position on immigration. This is a hot button issue, too. You won’t want to miss this. Mark your calendar. We’re happy to welcome her.

This Saturday morning at our shoot at the West Side Sportsman’s Club we will have Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman with us. She will arrive between 10 and 11 AM. Folks, Margie and I are counting on you and everyone you know to be there.

This is the Lt. Gov. coming all the way from Indy to spend time with gun owners. Gun owners who don’t mind fighting for their gun rights.

It’s very encouraging to have those in office like Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman and Rep. Suzanne Crouch to approach us for a visit.

Something else noteworthy and I know there will be some who will disagree with what I’m going to say, but I’m not going to change my mind.

Another reason we had success on stomping a mud hole in the South Bend thing is that we DO HAVE A PRO GUN GOVERNOR. Now before anyone gets ready to read me chapter and verse on the Constitution, let me say I KNOW THE CONSTITUTION and I know to recognize status and situation.

If we would have had a governor like Jill Long Thompson who is the Democratic candidate for governor the Democrat council in South Bend would have been a little more brave about standing up to the heat they got.

Thompson is not pro gun. She would not have signed a Lifetime handgun license bill into law. She would not have signed a Castle Doctrine bill into law and she sure would not have issued an executive order to allow carry on all state owned property and state parks in Indiana.

At our Patriot meeting this Saturday I’m going to recommend that we endorse Mitch Daniels for governor.

To Margie and me the Second Amendment is not something we use to make a livelihood with. It’s a principle that has been put into writing forever to remind us that we are to have the means to protect liberty and freedom from the continuous aggressive assaults both from domestic and foreign attacks and use that means.

See you Saturday. Right?
