Congressman Joe Donnelly (D-2nd) has scheduled several meetings around the 2nd CD – mainly in the rural areas of the 2nd District. He’s held a meeting in the South Bend/Elkhart area already, on top of the Obama propaganda rally.

Here’s the schedule (nabbed from the left since Donnelly’s staff won’t confirm nor deny his schedule – must be afraid of a couple of you “teabaggers” reading this post)

Meanwhile, Abdul is reporting that Senator Birch Evans Bayh III is opting for the Brad Ellsworth weasel strategy put forth by Organizing for America

All throughout August, our members of Congress are back in town. Insurance companies and partisan attack groups are stirring up fear with false rumors about the President’s plan, and it’s extremely important that folks like you speak up now.

So we’ve cooked up an easy, powerful way for you to make a big impression: Office Visits for Health Reform.

All this week, OFA members like you will be stopping by local congressional offices to show our support for insurance reform.

Oh now its “insurance reform”??

You can have a quick conversation with the local staff, tell your personal story, or even just drop off a customized flyer and say that reform matters to you.

We’ll provide everything you need: the address, phone number, and open hours for the office, information about how the health care crisis affects your state for you to drop off (with the option of adding your personal story), and a step-by-step guide for your visit.

OFA is the former campaign group for Obama. Scheduled one-on-one office visits with the Senator. Of course all of these appointments pre-screened by staffers.

Odd, because he’s holding 10 job fairs in the coming weeks, but only meeting constituents on a scheduled basis on something as important as this issue?

  1. It’s ironic to me that Republicans are acting appalled at this outrage to democracy (GASP! HE WON’T HAVE A TOWN HALL!) when it’s their own ranks (RedState.com) that have instructed people to goad members of Congress into “gotcha” moments that they videotape. You see, that’s not about a dialogue on healthcare. That’s about defeating it and using a town hall as the vehicle. If people really care, they’ll go see their members of Congress. You know the only people REALLY complaining about this? The people who will be weeded out from the office visits precisely because they have no interest in gaining any real information.

  2. And let me add…anybody who is already opposed can send a letter to their congressman. That’s quicker than spending 15 minutes with him or her, but the downside is that you don’t get to yell and try to incite a mob mentality in a roomful of people.

    • cj, you are right that anyone can send a letter. But quicker has nothing to do with the whole situation. The question is what is most effective. The point of finding our representatives at town halls is to demonstrate to them just how unpopular this stuff is. The outrage is not so much that they will not have a town hall as it is an outrage that they are canceling them rather than meeting with their constituents in mass. In other words, they are demonstrating that they are not interested in hearing what their constituents actually think.

Some of us are tired of the responses of our representatives that are filled with platitudes and non-answers to our questions. Both Republicans and Democrats need to step up to the plate and give straight answers on subjects such as HR3200 and they need to understand the degree to which these are opposed.

Your comment: “You know the only people REALLY complaining about this? The people who will be weeded out from the office visits precisely because they have no interest in gaining any real information.” is absolutely false and indicates exactly what the end goal of this legislation is. If the real goal was to cover the uninsured without cutting people’s current service level, then no one would be “weeded out from the office visits…” at all.
