(The post below was written yesterday in the community blogs by Ccorn before this morning’s health care vote.  But the message still rings true.  Senators (Read: Evan Bayh) refuse to pick up their phones.  They refuse to empty their voice mail boxes and most importantly, they refuse to talk to the very people that elected them.  It’s time for a change!  – Josh)

On the radio today I listened to people calling in about healthcare. They were calling their Senators in vain. The voicemail boxes were either full or they got no answer at all. This is by design. They have plenty of staff to take these calls. They can empty their voicemail box all day long if they wish. They are not taking calls from ‘the people’ anymore. They will pass this bill and it will become law. We are wasting our time calling and emailing and faxing our representatives. They are no longer listening. You will get tax hikes today, but no health care until 2014.

Our only salvation is November 2, 2010. We must change the things we can. The 2010 midterm election will be held on Tuesday, November 2 with at least 36 of the 100 seats in the Senate being contested and all House seats coming up for election. The current make-up of the U.S. House of Representatives is 256 Democrats, 178 Republicans and one vacancy. All members of the House will face re-election in 2010. The current make-up of the U.S. Senate is 58 Democrats, 40 Republicans, and two Independents. Two thirds of the Senate will face re-election in 2010.
