Once upon a time the noted Midwestern pundit and author Mark Twain quipped that when he overheard a fellow citizen complaining about how the legislature was out of session he thought that there was nothing wrong with that since the liberties of the people are safe when legislators are taking a break. Well, tomorrow Congress returns from its August recess and you can bet that with the Democratic majority and some liberal Republicans your liberties may not be all that safe.
To brief yourself on what Congress will be facing upon its return to Washington you may want to read Jed Babbin’s piece in which he interviews Hoosier Congressman Mike Pence. Mr. Babbin is the editor of Human Events and he makes some good quips and points in this interview.
John McGoff made some waves in the Indianapolis press last week by citing some interesting expenses incurred by Fifth District Congressman Dan Burton’s office, including lots of money for Congressional mail and for government-funded automobiles.
Nobody, however, seems to have paid any attention to the guy that is number two for spending in Indiana on those two lists.
That would be *cue the drumroll* Ninth District Congressman Baron Hill.
Taking the Indianapolis Star article, it is just a matter of sorting by spending by amount.
