So many questions Joel, but there aren’t even enough answers. A couple of guys and I asked Ike Randolph who he thought might become the next president of the council and he surmised, as we had, that the choices could come down to Mike Speedy or Bob Lutz.

OK, it looks like the at-large will go 3-1 for the Republicans. Joanne Sanders will beat out Michael Hegg. I anticipate that the Dems get 17 and 18 and the Republicans get 21.

That puts the final count at R-17, D-12.

What a huge upset.

So. What is next? Who will be the President of the council? Does this represent the beginning of a resurgence of the Republican Party organization within Marion County?

The precincts outstanding are in Warren Township, basically.

In 2003 (with 26% turnout as opposed to the 24% turnout estimated in 2007):

17: 5,600 votes, 2,000 Republican to 3,500 Democrat
18: 4,300 votes, 1,700 Republican to 2,700 Democrat
21: 6,100 votes, 3,600 Republican to 2,500 Democrat

Not enough of a margin to give Bart hope of a victory, particularly not with recently crime-struck Irvington in the mix.

I think at least two at-larges will go R. Kent Smith has a 15,000 vote lead on King Ro. Barbara Malone also has a 7,000 vote lead on Ron Gibson.

That gives the Republicans the 15 votes that they need with possibly 1 to 3 left to gain.

19 looks like it will stay Dem by a handful of votes.

Ballard still up 4,300 with 89% in. I am hoping that district 21, which still only has 5 precincts reporting will offset losses in 17.

17 is heavy Dem, but let’s hope the low turnout minimizes the impact for The Bartman.

Repubs: 2, 3, 5, 6, 12, 13, 14, 20, 22, 23, 24, 25
Dems: 1, 7, 9, 10, 11, 15, 16

17 has only 3 of 41 precincts reporting (incredible)
18 has only 11 of 27
21 has only 5 of 37

Others too close to call, including at-large.

17, 18 is currently Dem. 21 is currently Rep.

Ballard with a 6,000 vote lead with 15% to go. But we do have three major districts to come in.

Low turnout–only 24.8%
