Could it be that someone has finally decided to run against Joe Donnelly?  Could the Republican savior in the 2nd be Luke Puckett?

From the South Bend Tribune:

Luke Puckett now appears almost certain to be the Republican challenger opposing Congressman Joe Donnelly, D-Granger, in Indiana’s 2nd District this fall.

Puckett starts short on money and with long odds against him; with low name recognition but high hopes.

“I think it’s a winnable race or I wouldn’t be getting into it,” says Puckett.

He plans soon to file officially as a candidate for the Republican congressional nomination and then travel throughout the district to start getting known and to improve odds for an upset of Donnelly.

This is a district a Republican should win, but Puckett finds himself more than short on money or name recognition. He’s almost assured of no help from the NRCC, since they’re broke, and has an uphill battle against a moderate Democrat who almost beat Chris Chocola the first he ran against him in 2004.

Hat’s off to Luke Puckett. I’m pleased someone is running against the freshman Democrat Donnelly, but money is going to be hard to come by this year for Republicans running for congress.

  1. This one is gonna be tough. Donnelly is more conservative than most Republicans and is a great fit for this District.

Puckett is either brave, or delusional.

  2. Based on my dealings with him, I can tell you that Puckett is an enthusiastic, dynamic candidate with a go-getter attitude. While others sit around talking, lamenting what others say can’t be done; you will find Puckett out there getting it done. He’s a man of integrity, sound moral character, and no stranger to hard work. He will provide strong, conservative, leadership for Indiana’s 2nd District.
