Unacceptable at IU: Fire Kelvin Sampson!
Just as we celebrate the sometimes rocky career of Coach Bob Knight for all of the right reasons - graduating players, no recruiting violations and overall winning without sacrificing the character of his programs - we learn that our Hoosiers are in deep trouble with the NCAA. ESPN is reporting “Indiana Faces Major Violations Over Calls” stemming from illegal recruiting phone calls made by IU Coach Kelvin Sampson. This type of behavior is unacceptable at IU, even in the midst of one of the best IU Basketball seasons of my lifetime. Contact the Trustees at IU today and tell them to do the right thing.
Also, check out this website -www.FireCoachSampson.com
UPDATE: The Indy Star has released a profile of the actual violations from the NCAA with more information about Sampson’s lies and false statements to the NCAA investigators. Also, stay tuned at IU Basketball’s best blog here - Inside the Hall - for updates throughout the day. No one covers IU Basketball better than these guys.
UPDATE 2: If any elected officials or candidates would like to comment on this subject, please pass your comments on to me at jim@wabashconsultants.com and I will post them at www.HoosierAccess.com. I do see this as an important political issue with huge implications to the state of Indiana and its taxpayers.

I appreciate your ire at Sampson (though there is no new information here–this was revealed several months ago). But it frustrates me when I see the lionizing of Coach Knight. Yes, he is a basketball genius. Yes, he won 3 championships and ran an above board program.
But he probably should have been charged with assault multiple times. He did not act unethically–he acted illegally!

{smart-a$$ comment alert}
Perhaps Vice-President Dick Cheney and Bob Knight should go hunting together.

Strangely, I was not thinking about that incident for Knight….

As a Purdue grad, I just sit back and watch. Too bad all coaches can’t be as good and above board as Matt Painter.

Joel…maybe you should read the story before you criticize the post. While this is related to what happened months ago, the NCAA investigated it further and found that Sampson was lying to them even then about how much he cheated.

Who the heck is on the (h)iring committee for the coaches. With Coach after, coach after, troubled coach there is a lot more wrong than the coach at IU! It is the hiring committe that needs to be fired first!

ED, I am not criticizing the post relative to the current situation. I am criticizing the crimson colored glasses that many Hoosiers wear regarding Knight. He is forgiven a lot of ills because of three banners.

Before they go hunting for a new coach, they need a new hiring committee and a new athletic director.

Now I see why Bobby Knight retired abruptly from Texas Tech a few days ago…
