From The “Don’t You &$%#ing Morons Have Anything Better To Do?” Department…
It seems the moonbat majority in Congress has decided instead of taking up important matters such as the Protect America act, they are going to spend more time investigating major league baseball and the steroids row.
(from the AP and the Ryerson Rag)
” WASHINGTON (AP) — Roger Clemens’ denial of steroid use warrants further investigation, Congress said Wednesday in asking the Justice Department to determine whether the star pitcher lied under oath in testimony to a House committee.
House Oversight and Government Reform Committee chairman Henry Waxman and ranking Republican Tom Davis sent a letter to Attorney General Michael Mukasey, urging more scrutiny of Clemens’ statements in a Feb. 5 sworn deposition”
GIVE IT A REST, NUMBSKULLS!!! *grumble*
Number Two - this sudden flap over WLW’s Bill Cunningham referring to Barack Obama’s full name. What is wrong with people? We refer to the present CIC as “George W. Bush” and the one Democrat as “Hillary Rodham Clinton” why not Barack Hussein Obama?
You do realize in his younger years he referred to himself as “Barry Obama”, don’t you?

I’m with Mark Souder on this one. Seeing Republicans line up for Clemens just because he went to their offices and declared himself a Republican was an embarrassment. Were he a Democrat, there would have been silence on his behalf.

I didn’t hear about that. I got the impression that this too was just a partisan issue; Republicans for Clemens, Democrats for McNamee.
But I have to agree with Mike on this. This is dumb and we need to move on. Let baseball take care of its own problems…oh wait! (And that’s coming from a die hard baseball fan)

Yeah, but it’s the intention behind mentioning his middle name. It’s to point out his Arab ancestry and to use it in a degrading way. I’m not saying you’re doing it that way, but certainly people like Ann Coulter do use it that way. Personally, I think he should have stuck with Barry, but I have enjoyed the puns on his name by SNL.

1. There’s a much more troubling issue in baseball. Sam Zell wants to sell the naming rights to Wrigley Field. Oh HE** NO!!!
2. Why did you bring up Ann Coulter, Josh? Trying to get us into trouble again?

I’m in favor of calling people whatever they want to be called… seems to me a matter of etiquette. (And in that respect, I remember when such courtesy was considered old-fashioned and conservative.)
But if we are to call a person by what he is, not what he wants to be called, I would begin by calling Bill Cunningham a lunatic.
And in contrast to Bill Cunningham’s use of Obama’s three names, substituting “lunatic” for Bill Cunningham saves syllables.

Red State calls Bill Cunningham an “embarrassing excuse for a conservative“. But it seems it’s mostly for his saying he’d back Hillary Rodham Clinton after being called out by John McCain for repeatedly referring to Obama’s middle name. Interesting.

Wow, that’s some harsh language in the headline. I know we dislike liberals, but geez. I’d rather not have to fill in the blanks.
Totally agree with the post, though. This issue is a complete waste of taxpayer money.

It would be difficult to hold anyone to an oath in testimony when allowing Roger Clemens to skate.
Speaking as a Republican, if we expected to hold Clinton to the fire for choosing his words about Lewinsky, a matter that exercised Republicans for (too many) years, then we can’t look the other way when Clemens is viewed (correctly, in my opinion) by all who watched as having lied through his teeth while under oath.
Remember, Clemens asked to testify… the committee was avoiding it for precisely this reason. Now he has testified and, it seems apparent, lied. Alas, there is no choice but to pursue. Any other choice that permits a lying under sworn testimony to Congress is unacceptable. Then anyone who wants the PR to try and recover their reputation could do so by testifying in front of Congress.
Testimony in Congress under oath would be assumed to be a charade without enforcement of the oath.

Let’s focus this back on the real problem: Why is Congress investigating baseball instead of moving ahead with a reauthorization of the Protect America Act?
Baseball. National security. It’s not even close.
November’s coming.

I tend to agree with you on this, Chris. What I had my issue with was the entire line of hearings.
As best as I have read, though, this is a “he said, she said” type situation. Until there is hard evidence of his steroid use, I would argue that spending DOJ resources on “investigating” is a waste of money. And if you ARE going to investigate Clemens, then you also need to investigate the clown who said that he shot him up. One of the two was certainly guilty of perjury–why discriminate.
