  1. Sorta off topic but I see that numbers came out today for COH for Elrod and Carson and Jon Elrod has only raised about 71,000 so far for his congress race and has less then 40,000 for COH and thus you see he doesn’t even have enough money to run any ads. Carson has about 150,000 COH and raised more then 300,000.

Where is the IN GOP party and its roster of people who helped give money to them other GOP congressman? In fact where are the other GOP congressman in the state?

  2. That’s a good question for sure, but I do know that the State Party has been regularly doing phone banks for Jon (I know it’s not money, but in a Special that ads up to a lot) and the Congressman who usually gives the most to help other candidates around the state, that being Dan Burton, is locked up in a primary fight himself, which his people take very seriously. But I know for a fact, because I heard it come directly from him, that Congressman Burton has offered to help (I don’t know if Jon has taken him up on it yet) and that Senator Lugar and Mayor Greg Ballard had a fundraiser for Jon a few weeks ago. The NRCC can’t help b/c they’re broke. And the RNC only focuses on the presidential race.

Also remember, most of Carson’s money has come from the DCCC.

  3. Well, actually most of the money for Carson has come from PAC’s more then 250,000 while Jon has received zero.

Carson raised $376,274 through Feb. 20, more than five times the $71,130 raised by Elrod, according to their campaign disclosure reports.

In addition to raising about twice as much money from individual donors, Carson raised $252,795 from political committees while Elrod raised none.

After spending $223,542, Carson had $152,732 in the bank Feb. 20. He owed $3,941.

Elrod spent $24,795 and had $46,335 left with no debts.

In addition to what the candidates have spent, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has spent more than $120,000 on Carson’s behalf. The national GOP has not weighed in.

So as you see it with less then 2 weeks till election day I don’t see how Jon has even enough money to run 1 ad at this point. Its sad I really thought with right campaign team he had a shot but this is not looking positive at all now.

  4. Keep in mind that Greg Ballard was out raised 30-1 and only ran ads the last couple of days. It’s my hope Jon can get something on the air soon. But don’t get your hopes up yet.

  5. Didn’t Tom Rose say at the slating convention that it would take $400,000 to be competitive in this special election? I know that is “conventional”, but it sure looks like he was about right.

  6. On the other hand, the DCCC is doing a good job of getting Jon’s name in front of people. You would think they would learn–if someone can’t get his name out there on his own, don’t help him.

  7. There is a difference in electing a Mayor and Congressman here. I am willing to bet most people aren’t even aware of this race too a huge degree and feel what can 1 person do different in DC then what we have now? Fact is Jon needed to make this case significantly here and he hasn’t so the district will just go with the same old even if they aren’t excited about it.

Why did Jon not campaign with McCain when he was in area? I don’t see how being with McCain would hurt him in this district?

  8. Now that’s a good question. I wish I had an answer to that, but I don’t

  9. I read online that regarding McCain stuff:

“No one approached us, and we didn’t approach them,” said Elrod spokesman Kyle Kasting.

I just don’t buy that if President Bush could get in 44% to 45% range in district you know McCain would likely do even better in area.

I wish Jon had a meesage to hit home to voters why he would be best congressman because right now I just don’t see or hear it. You need to give voters in tilted Dem district like this a reason to not vote Dem and he has yet to even start that message.
