The Hair’s Little Brother Hits the Road, Moves Business North to Michigan
Matthew Bauer, it seems, is Speaker Pat “The Hair” Bauer’s younger brother (and, from the photo, it looks like he accepted hair loss a lot better than his elder brother did).
Anyway, how nice of the Bauer clan to have their family business leave Indiana; granted, it’s true, most parts of the Hoosier state (and even Michigan) are more business-friendly than big-tax, big-spending South Bend.
Still, why would “The Hair’s” brother move to Michigan and not somewhere else in Indiana? Read the story from the South Bend Tribune after the leap.
From the South Bend Tribune:
The business literally booming, Bauer Better Water Systems has been looking around for a better spot for a while.
Currently on Gumwood Road, near Cleveland Road and just a few miles off the Indiana Toll Road, Matthew Bauer, president and chief executive, was surprised to find what will be the company’s new location —- in Bertrand Crossing —- within a few miles of his home.
Matthew designed and patented the Bauer Soft Water System, which uses less water and less salt with less time to regenerate.
The company was started by Burnie Bauer, who still works there, in 1949.
The Notre Dame graduate, who used his master’s in accounting to manage a major soft water service company before setting out on his own, is pleased with the move.
“There’s a lot of hard water to go around,” Burnie, now in his early 90s, said.
And as the company strives to meet the increased demand, Matthew Bauer sounds like someone who can’t wait to move in.
“It’s exciting,” he said.

I noticed the SBT article DID NOT mention the relation of this Bauer to The Hair. Of course in an election year it would not behoove the Bauer family to move their operation to Michigan when The Hair is fighting to keep his Speaker’s job.

Now if they’d just move The Hair with them.
