Hill-Dog and Barry Make Indiana Front Page News
Today our little ole primary, that’s happening in about six weeks, kept up it’s steam in terms of political relevance when we made the front page of the Washington Post (you’ll have to take my word for it). Of course it was talking about Democrat’s primary, between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton rather than our state’s whole primary. Remember when we foolish thought the Republican primary might last till Indiana after Huckabee took Iowa and McCain took New Hampshire and there was talk of a brokered convention even on Red State? Those were the days.
Anyway, the article can be summed up in one sentence from the entire article:
“The state’s Democrats have reacted to their sudden relevance with enthusiasm.”
(Read more after the leap )
Yep, Indiana Democrats are suddenly relevant. Well, at least they are to themselves when it comes to national politics. Statewide? Well, that’s a different story considering no Democrat holds statewide office, doesn’t control the state senate, and is teetering on losing control of the House. Neither of their candidates for governor have any momentum heading into their primary, their candidate for A.G. only got press because Steve Carter suddenly announced he wasn’t running for re-election, while whoever replaces Carter for the Republicans is making more news. Do they even have someone running for Superintendent? I’m sure the Indiana State Teachers Association would rather sell what’s left of their souls to make sure Tony Bennett didn’t run unopposed.
So while they don’t have much going on in the way of statewide politics, at least they can dither over who will eventually lose the state in the presidential election in November.

Great post, Josh.
Indiana Democrats* deserve to feel relevent for once and the primary is a great place for that. They may not feel so relevent after November.
*By this I mean our well meaning liberal Democratic friends; not the hard working Democrats that are willing to see what has become of their party and willing to vote for candidates that truly share their values and are not mouthpieces for ISTA, Pat Bauer, or MoveOn.org as the case may be.
