Morning Earthquake

The MSM is reporting at about 5:40 this morning Indianapolis time an earthquake registering 5.2 on the Richter scale occurred along the New Madrid fault. I didn’t feel it myself, though Josh you know where I live and you would agree one could easily mistake an earthquake for a car’s subwoofer booming out the greats like 2Pac and rattling the windows.

So did any of you loyal Hoosier Access readers feel the quake this morning?

UPDATE: Aftershock felt on East side of Indianapolis at 11:15 AM. Didn’t rattle the windows but it did shake the vertical blinds. Definitely a weird feeling.

According to the USGS, the aftershock felt at 11:15 AM EDT was a 4.5 on the Richter scale.

  1. Yeah, my wife and I felt it. I was thankful my kids didn’t get woken up by it. My wife asked what it was and I told her it was the aliens coming to get us….

  2. It woke me, my wife and my 11 month old up. My 2 year old slept right through it. It was a weird feeling to have my house swaying…at least that’s what it felt like.

  3. Woke us up too.

This was not along the New Madrid fault by the way, it was in the Ozark Dome region (at least the initial reports said as much) which is immediately North and West of the New Madrid area stretching roughly from Indianapolis to (close to) Memphis and St. Louis.

And Michael, did you mean “2PAC” aka “Tupac Amaru Shakur” instead of “twopack” ?? I belive twopack is busy out touring with liteweight and ok2drive.

“All around the world same song”

  4. I’m pretty sure he meant “2Pac” as I do know the area in which he lives. Changed it for you Mike.

  5. 2Pac … Tupac … Twopack … whatever.

  6. Felt it down south; rather unsettling to be sure.

  7. We just had another one.

  8. felt the aftershock–not the initial quake–slept right through it–dog got so scared that she broke the tether and got loose…i wasn’t really all that worried when i heard about it, i mean, c’mon we’re Indiana–2 billion (with a B) years tidal wave free!

  9. Can’t say I felt that aftershock. And be careful what you say Adam. This topic could quickly change into exactly how old the earth really is! :)
