What bugs me more than Dr. Myers health care ideas is his apparent complete ignorance about economics (which he shares with Obama, by the way). His "big oil" solutions would create unimaginable damage to the US economy.

ick...even if i lived in the district, which I don't, I couldn't vote Myers. I would probably vote for Carolene. Goodness knows I would never vote for Andre or anybody who supported universal healthcare.

That was my feeling too, was that it could be policy of the Recorder and she was taking that side of the policy since she is still the face of the Recorder. In that case, it was a smart move, especially if there were conservative Democrats watching who can't stand either Barack or Hillary.

Of course, asking candidates for one office to endorse candidates for other offices is silly. Carson did his endorsement largely to ride Obama's coattails in his district. But generally this type of question is engaging in identity politics, which does not lead us toward good electoral decisions.

Personally, I thought that was a cop-out on Carolene's part. Newspapers give endorsements all the time. She did mention that as a policy, the Recorder does not endorse political candidates. Unlike the Ryerson Rag, which endorses candidates but doesn't bother talking to them all before making such endorsements.

facts: "Carolene Mays, as the Publisher and President of the Indianapolis Recorder Newspaper is not allow to personally endorse candidates for President, Governor, etc."

I must be missing something. What would disallow a newspaper publisher/president from endorsing someone? It seems to me that it happens all the time.

I think it is WISE that she did not endorse, but we are in the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Michael,

You did a good job of reporting most of the facts correctly. Here's some more information on some of the answers.

On Candidates Support For Other Offices:

Carolene Mays, as the Publisher and President of the Indianapolis Recorder Newspaper is not allow to personally endorse candidates for President, Governor, etc.

On Political Heroes, the two you missed were:

Woody Myers liked LBJ & JFK
David O liked Abraham Lincoln

On Lobbyists:

Carolene Mays pointed out that she has proved, as a State Rep, that she will stand up for Hoosiers first, no matter who gives money to her campaign.
Woody Myers said he likes to listen to Lobbyists as part of his educational process on the issues.

On Energy Policy:

Woody Myers never said let's increase gas prices or that anyone needs to stop driving!

On Closing Remarks:

David O slammed Andre Carson and Woody Myers (because they are the front runners according to the latest poll).
Carolene Mays promoted her record of service to Indianapolis as a community worker, business leader and State Representative. She did NOT slam anyone.

All in all you did a pretty good job of reporting the facts.
