Just When You thought she might get the hang of the job….

The incompetence of Beth White never ceases to amaze me. Just received an email that explained the Marion County GOP Chairman “lost” his Precinct Committeeman spot because the Clerk put him on the wrong precinct ballot. No worries because he could always appoint himself to any random open PC position anyway. But its the principle of it all - if she can’t get a PC position right, what makes anyone think she isn’t going to screw up something a little more important.

Never mind we had precincts not open up until late afternoon or not at all in May 2007.

Yesterday - one precinct had NO Democrat ballots delivered to it. In an election where a large number of Democrat ballots would be cast because of Operation Chaos. Reportedly, over 100 voters were turned away because of this. In another precinct, only 50 Republican ballots were sent and these had no school board races on them. Multiple calls from the inspector to the Election Board were required to get proper ballots delivered. Those are the ones I know about - I’m sure there are others.

Also, lots of reports of voters registering to vote at BMV and either they would be registered but not in the poll book or registered in the wrong precinct. One married couple living at the same residence submitted a voter registration together at the BMV after moving here from out of state. The husband was properly registered. The wife was not. The wife was registered but at a precinct that was two precincts away from her proper one. So who is at fault here? Without knowing the gory details, I would suspect BMV just submits the name, address, date of birth, and county of residence to the various Election Boards or Boards of Registrations or County Clerk’s offices around the state. It’s up to the Clerk’s office (via Registration) to get people into the proper precinct. Knowing the track record so far of the County Clerk the General Election of 2008 will be full of surprises.

For someone who campaigned on the “Make Every Vote Count” theme she has done a poor job delivering on that campaign pledge so far.

  1. Election Journal covered, in grim detail, the disenfranchising antics of Beth White shenanigans yesterday. She’s a disgrace to the electoral process, but God’s gift to Republicans come 2010, that’s for sure.

  2. Plus a good candidate for Secretary of State that can carry Marion County and the other 90 (never mind Lake) counties and we can get those poll inspectors back!

  3. My mother moved out of the precinct over two years ago, registered in her new precinct, and she’s still in our poll book even though we’ve brought this to the attention of the inspector every election since. (My wife even crossed Mom out of the poll book and wrote “MOVED” next to her name last time out — and probably is lucky she didn’t get arrested :) but that’s another story.)

Anyway, what a shock that the poll books aren’t up to date.
