Costas still Rolling in Endorsements

If endorsements were delegate votes, one might think the AG’s race is in the bag for Valpo Mayor Jon Costas. Well, they may not be votes, but they certainly do add intrigue to a race that is catching the attention and politico’s and delegates around the state. (Anybody else get a call from either campaign?)

Today, Mayor Costas rolled out his newest list of backers with mayors from around the state coming out in support of their fellow elected official.

See the list of endorsements and what Marion Mayor Wayne Seybold had to say about these endorsements after the leap.

Jim Brainard – Carmel
Andy Cook – Westfield
John Dennis – West Lafayette
Brad DeReamer – Greenfield
John Ditslear – Noblesville
Scott Ferguson – Shelbyville
John Lasley – Lebanon
Craig Luedeman – Seymour
Sharon McShurley - Muncie
Jeff Rea – Mishawaka
Mark Senter - Plymouth
Wayne Seybold – Marion
Dr. Rob Thoman – Southport
Jason Thompson – Monticello
Larry Thompson – Nappanee
Bob Vanlandingham – Wabash
James Walker – Peru
Ernest Wiggins – Warsaw
Joe Wright – Beech Grove

“Jon Costas has been a great mayor and it’s important we have state leaders who know how to address the concerns of the people and understand local government,” Marion Mayor Wayne Seybold said. “I know Jon will bring the same energy and efficiency to state government that he’s exhibited as Mayor.”

  1. I received a call from Jon Costas yesterday and was quite impressed.

  2. Really big list of GOP mayors statewide. Interesting to see which side - if any - Mayor Greg Ballard will fall on this.

  3. Ballard seems to have a “Property of Barnes & Thornburg” tag attached to his leg, so it’s safe to say that he’ll be backing Costas.

  4. Scott, I’ll assume you are also not a fan of Barnes and Thornburg? I can’t speak to Indy issues, but they’ve done great bond work for NW Indiana cities and towns.

Saw your post on our foolish “Chairman Mao” article, which was deleted because it was foolish. One great thing about guest writers is the diverstity to the debate. Let’s just say you and I agreed that this post didn’t help anyone, including my good friend the Mayor.

If I know Greg Ballard, he’ll stay out of this. I cannot believe he would back Costas and take the party line on this. Ballard is not beholden to anyone as he received no support from the party to be Indianapolis Mayor.

If he endorses anyone, it will be Greg Zoeller, because Zoeller is being treated the same way Mr. Ballard was prior to his election.

    WE GOT THE SUPERBOWL!!!!

  7. I’m not a fan of the big Indianapolis law firms.

I like that Steve Carter, when he was elected, stopped outsourcing a lot of the work of the AG’s office to them. He instead favored smaller law firms and in-house work.

That’s a policy that I suspect that Greg Zoeller will continue and Jon Costas will not (he is a Barnes & Thornburg alum; I’d love to hear that he will continue it, but have heard no such thing).

Costas’ entire nomination is a sop by the Governor to the big Indy law firms. It’s not just about geography.
