Sitting Down With Some Dinner, a Blog and the LG
Tonight, a few fellow bloggers and I will be live blogging a small dinner with Lt. Gov. Skillman. It will be a neat opportunity to kick back, relax and find out what the Lt. Gov has on her mind heading into this interesting election season. Make sure to check back later. Also, make sure to check out Mike’s live blog of the Indy City County Council meeting below this post.

Here we are. LG Skillman has started by saying she has filed with the SOS for the LG’s position at the convention.
Mentions that we are experiencing job growth throughout the state (67,000 new jobs)
Indiana is #1 in all of North America in all new foreign productions jobs. (14,000 of the 67,000 mentioned above)
Governor Daniels is in Iraq visiting our National Guard troops.
LG and Gov are looking forward to the next six months talking about Indiana’s future. They will run a positive campaign and not disregard the tough questions.
That said, I asked about the same sex marriage issue. LG Skillman said that the Governor has come out strongly in favor of pursuing a state amendment and that legislation will be pursued in the next session.
Kurt Luidhardt of Veritas Rex asked for a preview of the Gov/LG’s agenda for a next term:
LG: Part of that includes privatizing the Hoosier Lottery and education. The Governor will also be pursuing full funding for full day kindergarten. Also, looking at discipline in the classroom, more funding for instruction (rather than construction) in schools. Pushing second passage of the property tax amendment for referrendum in 2010. More of their agenda will be released in the next thirty days. It will include pursuing more economic reforms for Indiana.
Josh: What about the new registered voters and their affects in the November general?
LG: Hoosier voters tend to be smart in the way they vote. Hoosiers are acustommed to voting race by race.
Brian Jessen (Indy Hardball): What can Republicans do to combat Obamamania and it’s impact on younger voters?
LG: Republicans need to get their message out.
Josh: Why did you support Jon Costas for AG?
LG: She knows Jon and believes him to be very qualified and brings much needed geographic balance to the ticket.
Josh: How important is geographic balance?
LG: It’s not as important, but you’re not going to dissuade a qualified person from running based on the region of the state they are from.
Kurt: So are you running for Governor in 2012?
LG: Don’t know. 5 years from now feels like an eternity. Who knows what the issues will be in 2012.

(Regarding “coming out strongly for pursuing a marriage amendment” the LG seems to have gotten way out in front of the Governor’s position, representing her own druthers.)

TO be honest Chris, they were basing that off a comment the Gov gave last Friday when asked. I had missed that comment since I was out of town, but her chief of staff told me they would send me his comments from last week and that would be her stance as well. I hope to post that here as soon as I get it.

I would urge the LG and her staff to choose their words as carefully as the Governor.

Ah, I used to be invited to those events..
Then, I emailed Cam Savage (before the Gov came out supporting Costas) and told him I was supporting Greg Zoeller, and for some strange reason I didn’t get invited.
