We’ve Got the Super Bowl Baby!!!

A dream in the making over the last few years finally comes true!

From the Indy Star:

ATLANTA – National Football League owners today voted to hold the 2012 Super Bowl in Indianapolis.

Indy beat Houston and Phoenix in a vote of the league’s 32 owners after losing by just two votes to Dallas for the 2011 game.

Despite its cold weather, Indianapolis had been expected to win because its competitors have hosted a Super Bowl since opening their stadiums.

For city, state and team officials, winning the right to host one of the world’s premiere sporting events is the culmination of an effort that began years ago when the Colts agreed to stay in the city. As part of that deal, Central Indiana counties raised taxes to build what has become a $750 million stadium.

The NFL has opted out of its labor agreement with the NFLPA. What does this mean for Indy?

Under the current structure, there will be no change in the 2008 and ’09 seasons. However, unless the policy is amended, there would be no salary cap for 2010 and players would face more restrictive free-agent options, a situation that union chief Gene Upshaw has predicted would lead to the owners locking out the players for 2011.

Wouldn’t that just be Indy’s luck - we finally get the Super Bowl and the 2011/2012 season gets NHL’ed. I hope those people close to The Mayor put clauses in there asking if the 2011/2012 season is cancelled due to labor issues that we get the next one after….
