Cut The Crap

With apologies to Glenn Beck…. Marion County GOPers just need to “Cut the Crap”.

I’ve received emails and I see the discussion going on here at Hoosier Access and elsewhere about the leadership and items related to the State GOP convention. It’s been discussed elsewhere, so I’m not going to rehash it.

As most know I’m no fan of the present Marion County leader. But we as Republicans do need to CUT THE CRAP with respect to rumors and discussion about changing the leadership now as opposed to waiting until the proper time to do so which by State GOP Rules is 1st Saturday in March, 2009.

(Read my reasons why after the leap)

  • The removal requires 2/3rds of a vote of attending precinct committeemen and ward chairpersons. Most of us know the typical attendance of a caucus and getting a 2/3rd’s vote would be nearly impossible in Marion County. Center Twp. would attend en masse and most of them are appointed PC’s.
  • The petition required to even bring about such a caucus requires 2/3rds 25% of the signatures of the PC’s. You could go to the County Clerk’s office and research and find PC’s that are elected by looking through filings and election results. However the lists of appointed PC’s are maintained by the Central Committee.
  • This type of talk and activity distracts us from the true goal - re-electing the Governor and the entire GOP ticket including Dr. Bennett, Mr. Zoeller, and Lt. Gov Skillman.
  • It also distracts from our goal of re-claiming the House. Really … Brian Bosma or “The Hair”.
  • Do you really want to see Indiana go blue for the first time since LBJ’s landslide in 1964? Indiana even supported the GOP in the wake of Watergate in 1976. Do you want to start hearing “President Barack Hussein Obama” starting January 21st, 2009? EYE ON THE BALL!

There is a time for everything. The time for changes in the party will come in 2009. Right now it’s 2008 and we have elections to win this fall.

EDIT: I re-read the State Rules and I corrected myself before someone does it for me. It’s 25% to call for a caucus, and 2/3rds to remove. In Marion County you could possibly get 25% to call for the caucus, but you won’t get the 2/3rds. All it will do is distract everyone from the real goal. As I already said - CUT THE CRAP!

  1. Great observations Michael. I want to focus on the state House. I will post in a few minutes…

  2. Yes. Absolutely. The State House is where most of “the action” takes place. HD97 will more than likely turn back over to the D’s, regardless of whether Jon Elrod were to run for re-election or pursue the congressional seat. I know Chris Swatts and Adam Nelson will campaign tough for HD89 and HD86 respectively. We have a chance on some D seats, but I’m sure the House will be 51-49 or 52-48 again. Just depending on whether it’s D or R.

So, I guess what you are saying with the “cut the crap” is that the rest of us are supposed to tolerate any leader’s behavior and “put up with it” no matter how unprofessional, disrespective, and unethical it is? Explain how that is truly in the best interests of the party.

We need positive leadership and we need it now…particularly out of our state’s largest county.

we don’t NEED the leadership–just the other way around. They need us. We know who we want to have elected in the fall, so let’s cut the middleman and just do it. volunteer for the campaigns you want to volunteer for. Save the frustrations (and I know there are a lot–I’m in the same boat) for the reorginization. Remember our priority is the upcoming election. We must take back the house, keep the governor’s seat, and (God willing) get Elrod elected to Congress…

  5. Michael and Scratchman are both correct. Time to get our eyes on the ball. Whining about the party leadership is non-productive; they’ll be dealt with at the proper time.

  6. MaryKatherine - I know it’s tough. Believe me I’m with you in wanting to call for a head or two after 2007 after one of my friends was hung out to dry, in my opinion. But now is NOT the time. That’s why there is reorganization next March. There’s time to work on the reorganization effort come Wednesday November 5th after the election. Between now and November 4th it’s all eyes on the ball.

It’s about Mitch, Becky, Greg, and Tony. It’s all about your Republican candidate for State Representative. It’s about your Republican candidate for State Senate, if yours is up for election. It’s about Mark Leyva, Luke Puckett, Mark Souder, Steve Buyer, Dan Burton, Mike Pence, Jon Elrod, Greg Goode, and Mike Sodel going to Washington. It’s about your local races as well. That’s where we need to focus energy now. The reorganization will take place next year and the PC’s voices WILL be heard.

“We must take back the house, keep the governor’s seat, and (God willing) get Elrod elected to Congress…” — Well said Scratchman

Michael - you are right and I couldn’t agree with you more. It’s just too bad that we have to wait until March and that Tom John can’t be replaced immediately with a more positive leader for the fall campaign. His negative behavior does not help our party or it’s image.

  8. One of the problems with the idea of “throw the bum out” is that you create a vacuum. Who SHOULD be the Chairman? What would his/her qualifications be?
