Congressman Dan Burton (R-5th CD) issued the following press release in regards to Nancy Pelosi’s desire to see fellow lawmakers censored on the internet:
Congressman Dan Burton [R-IN-05] issued the following statement today opposing a new rule proposed by the Democratic leadership of the House Administration Committee that would require outside websites such as YouTube and other blogs to comply with House regulations before Members of Congress could post videos or statements on them. Under the proposal, the House Administration Committee would develop a list of “approved” websites, and Members of Congress would be restricted to only publishing content using these sites. Burton said:
“This proposed rule change is ridiculous. The First Amendment is one of the cornerstones of our democracy and now the Democratic leadership on the House Administration Committee wants to censor how Members of Congress use the internet to express their opinions and interact with their constituents. That is borderline criminal. It seems that certain people in Washington only want to use the First Amendment when it benefits them or their political positions. I hope all my colleagues on both sides of the aisle will stand up against this blatant disregard for not only transparency in government, but also for our freedom of speech”
This follows Republican Minority Leader John Boehnor’s statement which was released yesterday.

This morning I re-posted a post written by the Directors of Red State who wrote about Nancy Pelosi censoring members of congress from blogging, twittering, posting on You Tube and the like. That would keep members like Indiana’s own Mike Pence, a pioneer in Congressional blogging from using any other site other than his House.gov site or Pelosi approves sites. (Gee, I wonder which sites would get approval?)
Anyway, as I was reading the comment thread over on Red State, I noticed some people asked what started all of this. Fortunately, there was a pdf of a letter linked. You can find it here: Congressional Letter Requesting “House Approved” Sites
Well, there are two sides to every story. A faithful Hoosier Access reader sent me a link from Tech Dirt that explains how this whole situation may have gotten a little out of hand. The article claims:

Linda Pence’s campaign finance report is an interesting read. So interesting I’m chomping at the bit for the sequel
.
The big oil connection
One of Linda Pence’s campaign contributors is Cynthia Tuite, ($5,000 in February 2008) whose address is listed on Pence’s campaign finance reports as 6223 33rd Street NW, Washington DC 20015. It’s also the office for James Tuite, a well know Washington lawyer and lobbyist. His firm, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP lobbies for BP, Conoco Phillips and Exxon Mobil.
Doesn’t this make you wonder what the left would think if they knew someone that lobbies for big oil is piping money into their candidates pockets.

The Ryerson Rag reports an AP article (what? no local reporting?) stating the Marion County GOP will hold a caucus for selecting the candidate to replace Jon Elrod on the 7th Congressional District ballot. This caucus will be held on July 18th.
My sources tell me a couple candidates have expressed interest, though unlike the Rag article, I’m informed it’s not just City-County Councilors interested in the position. One is Gabrielle Campo, a Warren Township resident who ran in the caucus to for the Special Election. The other is rumored to be former City-County Councilman and RINO Scott Keller.
(This was taken directly from Red State and was issued by their Directors. It just goes to show how much: 1) Democrats feel government should control our lives and 2) that they only support First Amendment rights as long as it benefits them.)

We’ve had the pleasure to host many Representatives here at RedState, where they’ve written about issues that interest us all. But that may all be about to change if Nancy Pelosi has her way.
