Ask Becky Vol. 2 - New Era of Taxpayer Protection
Hoosier Access would like to thank Lt. Gov. Skillman for answering another question in our “Ask Becky!” series. Here’s question #2.
“How has the state been able to help local government stay on it’s feet as we’ve entered into this new era of taxpayer protection?”

Protected? Excuse me? How am I protected? I just received notice from my mortgage company that my payment went up more than $200 per month to cover my property tax increase. Contrary to what people say, not everyone in Meridian Kessler is rich. I’m a single working woman who saved for five years to buy my home. I put up with crime and noise and other problems because I chose to live in the city.
I don’t have better services for my increased mortgage payment. In fact, the police station in my neighborhood moved making me feel even more vulnerable to crime.
Most of my property tax payment goes to a school system which has one of the worst graduation records in America. The main thing IPS seems to graduate is more thugs and criminals.
Ms. Skillman, I don’t feel protected. I feel preyed upon by a predatory government!
Why won’t Ms. Skillman or the Governor to address the public on the record regarding Article 8 of the Indiana Constitution and why our legislature does not obey it?
