LIGHTS OUT! DEMOCRATS LEAVE REPUBLICANS IN THE DARK

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

Congressman Burton issued this press release yesterday in response to Nancy Pelosi shutting off the lights in Congress.

LIGHTS OUT! DEMOCRATS LEAVE REPUBLICANS IN THE DARK

Democrats Turn off Mics, Lights as Republicans Stay in the Chamber to Speak About High Gas Prices

(Washington, D.C.) – A few dozen Republican representatives rallied in the House chamber even though the power was cut and the lights were turned off. When Democrats banged the gavel for adjournment at 11:23am, angry Republicans gathered in protest of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi blocking any votes on drilling or other energy legislation.

The drama began when the Democrats, as expected, overwhelmingly voted to adjourn business in the House of Representatives today, and head into a five week vacation. Republicans stayed on the House floor to give speeches against taking a vacation while nothing had been done about high gas prices. Suddenly, the lights went out, C-SPAN cameras were cut, and all the microphones were turned off. The Republican lawmakers resorted to yelling their speeches in the dark as random tourists in the House Gallery and reporters stayed to watch. Politico reporter John Breshnehan, who was on the scene, described how Republican Whip Roy Blunt shielded reporters from being escorted out by police officers.

State Fair Exhibit to Allow Visitors to Experience Day in the Life of Dennie Ray Oxley II

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

“No polyps today, Miss Jill.”

(Previously, of course, he routinely told Speaker Pat “The Hair” Bauer that.)

From the Indy Star:

An Indiana State Fair exhibit promoting education about colorectal cancer includes a 40-foot model of the human colon that visitors can crawl through.

The free exhibit at the Clarian Healthy Lifestyles Pavilion on Aug. 6-17 is dubbed “Colossal Colon” and depicts healthy colon tissue as well as tissue with hemorrhoids, cancerous and non-cancerous polyps, Crohn’s disease, diverticulosis, ulcerative colitis and various stages of colon cancer.

Colorectal cancer is the third-most common cancer and will cause nearly 50,000 deaths in the United States this year, according to the Indiana University Simon Cancer Center, which is co-sponsoring the exhibit with Clarian.

New 9th District Poll: Baron’s Lead Shrinks by a Third

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

Uh oh. Looks like folks down this way are slowly waking up to the realization that their representation in Congress represents the values of San Francisco and not southern Indiana.

Irrational opposition to oil drilling, support for San Francisco liberal social values, votes for higher taxes, votes against troops fighting a war, and an endorsement for the most liberal candidate for President since George McGovern are not Hoosier values.

They’re Baron’s values, but they’re not our values.

They’re the values of Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, and of folks in places like Massachusetts and San Francisco, where Luddite lunacy is rampant and common sense is scarce.

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

Nancy Pelosi may have ordered the camera’s shut down and lights turned off, but thanks to social networking, we could still see and read what went down on the House floor yesterday.
