Former DNC Chairman Thinks It’s “Cool” New Orleans About To Be Hit By Hurricane

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

(Bumped up just so people don’t miss this during the weekend)

You know, I probably wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it, but this is thoroughly appalling!  It doesn’t surprise me when a nut-case like Michael Moore says God is on their side when a hurricane is bearing down on New Orleans the week of the Republican Convention, but when a former Democrat National Party Chairman and Congressman decide to yuck it up and see the Hurricane as “God’s favor to Democrats”, you have to wonder about who really is leading their party and what they think!

Obama’s Old Rhetoric

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

On the evening of Thursday, August 28th, nearly 1 in 10 Americans watched as Senator Barack Obama officially accepted the Democrat Party’s nomination to be the next President of the United States. The freshman Senator and community organizer from Illinois gave a 45 minute speech that, regardless of his intent, set his campaign’s tone for the final sprint to the November election. Among the thousands of people gathered in the stadium to watch the event live, throngs waved American flags and signs emblazoned with the word “Change”. Since the start of his candidacy at the old Illinois state capitol last year, Senator Obama has styled himself as a new style of candidate, a post-partisan era figure who appeals to all people because of a shared feeling and belief that politics has become nothing but the sport of special interests bent on destroying the lives of all hard-working (though not necessarily God-fearing) Americans.

The central theme of this new age feeling campaign has been Hope and Change. When not wanting to emphasize substantive policy positions this theme has been echoed over and over again in the declaration “Yes we can!” Presumably there is someone or some group out there shouting to us “No you can’t!” and it is in defiance to this nefarious cabal that we raise this hopeful hue and cry.

Obama Camp Already Smearing Palin

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

For all their “She has no experience” talk, they sure seem to be pretty scared of her and are trying to undermine her with social conservatives.

Via Little Green Footballs:

Suddenly appearing among the Google search results for “sarah palin gay,” a web site titled: Sarah Palin Supports Gay Rights.

This sure looks like the work of the dastardly right-wing anti-gay attack machine, doesn’t it?

But look who’s really behind this.

In the Linux console, if you enter the following commands, you can learn the secrets of a political dirty trick. First, look up the host of ‘sarahpalingayrights.com’ to get the site’s IP address.

host sarahpalingayrights.com
sarahpalingayrights.com has address 74.208.74.232

Then use the same command to look up the domain name pointer of that IP address.

host 74.208.74.232
232.74.208.74.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer obamadefense.com

Well, well. “Obamadefense.com,” eh?

And what happens if you enter obamadefense.com on your browser’s address line?

Why, you’re redirected to none other than FightTheSmears.com, the official Barack Obama site that’s supposed to be defending him against smears.

Looks like they may have a second purpose: to generate a few smears of their own.

Just What Does Baron Hill Think About ENDA?

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

From the Twitter feed of lefty blogger Bil Browning (sent by an observant reader; I don’t use Twitter):

Just lobbied Rep Baron Hill on trans inclusion in ENDA. Told him facts he didn’t know and he said he’d remember for his vote

Baron got reelected saying that he was in tune with Hoosier values and with the values of the people of his district.

So what does he think about ENDA? Will he take into account the views of his district, or just the views of the People’s Republic of Bloomington? Will he listen to 19 conservative counties, or the most liberal community in Indiana?

Update: Weak snark from Thomas Cook aside, the question remains. Where does Baron Hill stand on ENDA? Does Thomas Cook have an answer? Does Baron Hill?

The Minefield the Democrats Will Have to Navigate

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Over the next 60+ days, you’re going to hear a lot about experience from both presidential candidates.  You will continue to hear from the McCain camp that Barack Obama is dangerously unqualified to be president because of his lack of experience.  You will hear the same from Democrats about Sarah Palin.  Although it does seem funny to me that they are comparing their presidential candidate to our vice-presidential candidate.  Does this mean that they admit that Obama is underqualified?

Before they launch into their attacks against Governor Palin, maybe they should examine the kind of minefield that they could be entering:

(Via Culture11.com)

  • Palin has more executive experience than Obama himself (having run a company, a PTO, a town and then Alaska).
    • WARNING: Bring up the experience issue at your own peril.
    • SAMPLE: “When Senator Obama started his first run for local office I was already a two-term mayor.  If you simply count the years of experience, I win, frankly.”
  • Palin has more direct military experience than Obama and Biden combined having served as Commander of the Alaskan National Guard:
    • WARNING: Don’t fuss with military issues.  Be cautious around foreign affairs.
    • SAMPLE: “Alaska has a shared border with Canada and shared Islands with Russia.  Illinois and Deleware…mmm… not so much.  I’ve actually commanded hundreds of military volunteers in person not just from a DC hearing room.”
  • Palin is pro-life in ways that other just aren’t.  Namely, the pro-life decision she made was real.
    • WARNING: Don’t even bring up the word “abortion” around her
    • SAMPLE: “Since everybody’s worried about my experience I’d like to know how Senator Biden might react if he were in my shoes.  Abortion isn’t just some idealogical issue for me… I’ve had the face the very real decision.  So I ask you, Senator Biden, what would you do if your family faced a similar choice?”

Under the Radar - A Battle Between Myths and Facts

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Did you know that there was a congressional debate here in Indiana this past week?  With all the hubub surrounding the Democrat National Convention, and then Senator McCain’s VP announcement, it was pretty easy for it to slip through the cracks.

But this past Thursday, Congressman Steve Buyer and challenger Nels Ackerson had a debate….the same night as Obama’s speech.  I wonder why Ackerson wasn’t with his fellow Democrats in Denver whooping it up and crying tears of joy at the very site of Obama?  Oh that’s right.  So he could spread falsehoods in a debate.  There were so many, the Buyer camp had to issue a lengthy press release just to clarify all of Akerson’s myths.

Buyer Campaign Sets Record Straight

Brownsburg, IN – Today Congressman Steve Buyer’s Campaign is setting the record straight on some of the distortions and inaccuracies that Nels Ackerson made against the Congressman’s record during Thursday’s night debate and at other appearances.

MYTH: Buyer has introduced his pro-drilling bill to benefit the oil companies and only for political purposes. Buyer has been in Congress for 16 years so why is he now just doing something about the energy crisis?

FACT:

Congressman Buyer has always supported drilling and incentives for alternative fuels and in fact:

· 91% of House Republicans have historically voted to increase the production of American-made oil and gas

· 86% of House Democrats have historically voted against increasing the production of American-made oil and gas.

· Oil price is largely a function of supply and demand. Most experts agree that if we increase supply here at home and increase our refinery capabilities consumers would benefit. Steve Buyer’s plan, H.R. 6001, is a comprehensive energy policy that includes drilling along with support for the research and development of additional alternative fuels like clean coal, ethanol, bio-fuels, and others.

· The Congressman’s opponent seems content to force Hoosier families and American families more broadly to pay higher gas prices.
· Buyer’s legacy of involvement in alternative fuels dates back to his earliest days in office. Steve Buyer was backing alternative fuels while his opponent was making millions as a Washington D.C. trial lawyer.

(There’s a very lengthy list of “facts” that Ackerson got wrong about Buyer after the leap) (more…)
