Well, we’re not live (wish we were), but Media Lizzy is and she was able to get the full remarks of Fred Thompson’s speech at the GOP Convention.
From Media Lizzy’s website:
Below are the remarks, as prepared for delivery, by former Senator Fred Thompson of Tennessee:
Tonight our thoughts are still with our friends and fellow citizens in the Gulf Coast area, and our thanks go to those who have worked so hard to keep them safe. There can be no more important work than this.
But what we are doing at this convention is also important to our country.
We are going to nominate the next President and Vice President of the United States of America.
We do so while taking a different view of our country than that of the other party.
Listening to them you’d think that we were in the middle of a great depression; that we are down, disrespected and incapable of prevailing against challenges facing us.
We know that we have challenges … always have, always will.
But we also know that we live in the freest, strongest, most generous and prosperous nation in the history of the world and we are thankful.
Speaking of the vice presidential nominee, what a breath of fresh air Governor Sarah Palin is.

Oops! Another sign of P.D.S., Palin Derangement Syndrome!
The title of the post is very apropos for the video below and was taken from this post.

You may remember Barney Smith from Fairmount, Indiana. He spoke at the Democrat National Convention Thursday night and was one of the people who introduced Barack Obama. He will be remembered for the line “I want a president who cares more about Barney Smith than they do about Smith Barney.” A great well-written line that many people remember.
On Thursday night in Denver, when he introduced Barack Obama, he claimed to be a “lifelong” Republican. But it looks like the Democrats lied about his affiliation, or at minimum never took the time to check him out.
You would think that with all those Republicans who are supposedly crossing over to vote for the Obamassaih the Democrats would have actually been able to find a real one.
Barney Smith’s voter registration is clear. It shows that for the last 12 years he has voted in 3 primary elections. In 1996 he voted Democrat, in 2006 he voted Republican, and in 2008 he voted Democrat.
He may well have had Republican leanings, and how he voted in general elections is, of course, confidential. But would you say that voting in one Republican primary in the last 12 years would qualify a person to be a “lifelong” Republican?
“Any self respecting mother would have taken her daughter to an abortion clinic and had that blood clot removed”
So children are nothing more than “blood clots”?? Oh yes, Consider the source.
He also made lots of disparaging remarks towards Trig Palin, which I won’t list here.
So on the long trip home last night after the sun set I tuned the AM radio (you know - the button you push to listen to Abdul here in Indy) to 870 AM to listen to clear channel (not to be confused with Clear Channel) WWL broadcasting from New Orleans.
WWL has gone to a non-commercial 24 hour public safety and hurricane information station in the wake of Hurricane Gustav, similar to the coverage post-Katrina. For the most part from what I am gathering, there is no reported loss of life, little to no flooding, just lots of trees and power lines down and typical windstorm roof damage. Just like here at home in Indiana after a severe thunderstorm. (Click “Read More”) (more…)
