Rockers Disapprove Of Use Of Song

Friday, September 5th, 2008

Gregory “Flap” Cole writes on FlapsBlog:

The rock group Heart, angry that its 70’s hit ‘Barracuda’ is being used as the unofficial theme song for Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin, is biting back at the Alaska governor.

Heart (Anne and Nancy Wilson) have asked Team McCain and Sarah Palin to stop playing their song “Barracuda.” Barracuda was the nickname of the Alaska Governor when she played basketball. (Read More…) (more…)

Palin Power: More Popular Than Obama

Friday, September 5th, 2008

Obviously, Obama’s popularity is losing steam…

See how Rasmussen finds her:

A week ago, most Americans had never heard of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Now, following a Vice Presidential acceptance speech viewed live by more than 40 million people, Palin is viewed favorably by 58% of American voters. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 37% hold an unfavorable view of the self-described hockey mom.

The figures include 40% with a Very Favorable opinion of Palin and 18% with a Very Unfavorable view (full demographic crosstabs are available for Premium Members). Before her acceptance speech, Palin was viewed favorably by 52%. A week ago, 67% had never heard of her.

The new data also shows significant increases in the number who say McCain made the right choice and the number who say Palin is ready to be President. Generally, John McCain’s choice of Palin earns slightly better reviews than Barack Obama’s choice of Joe Biden.

Perhaps most stunning is the fact that Palin’s favorable ratings are now a point higher than either man at the top of the Presidential tickets this year. As of Friday morning, Obama and McCain are each viewed favorably by 57% of voters. Biden is viewed favorably by 48%.

37 Million Viewers Was the Record

Friday, September 5th, 2008

obama-sweating.jpgFor the all heaps and praise that Barack Obama got for shattering viewership records with his acceptance speech last week at the DNC by attracting over 38 million viewers, one might now say that records are meant to be broken.

Via My Way:

After days of intense media coverage about Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s qualifications, more than 40 million Americans tuned in Wednesday to see for themselves what they thought of her.

The huge audience for Palin’s acceptance speech rivaled that for Obama’s address at the Democratic National Convention six days earlier, and set a tough standard for the top of her own ticket. John McCain was to accept the GOP presidential nomination on Thursday.

An audience of 37.2 million people watched Palin on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox News Channel and MSNBC, Nielsen Media Research said Thursday. PBS estimated its audience at 3.9 million, based on a less reliable sample of several big cities.

And now we come to find out that John McCain’s preliminary viewership comes in higher than Obama’s too:

Presidential candidate John McCain’s acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention drew more television viewers than his rival Barack Obama attracted at the Democratic party’s event last week, according to preliminary ratings from Nielsen Media Research.

Across all broadcast networks Thursday, Sen. McCain’s speech ended the night with a 4.8 rating/7 share, compared to Sen. Obama’s 4.3/7 average, according to overnight numbers from metered households in 55 U.S. markets measured by Nielsen.

And lest we forget, Joe Biden’s speech only got a measly 24 million viewers. Looks like he’s small potatoes in the grand scheme of things.

Another Baron Lie: Baron Hill & Lower Taxes for Hoosier Families

Friday, September 5th, 2008

For the first six years that he was in Congress, the Republican majority effectively allowed Baron Hill to hide his liberal policy views from Hoosiers.

For the fourteen years they controlled Congress, the Republicans never once raised taxes, so the only votes Baron Hill had to cast were in opposition to tax cuts.

And, make no mistake, Baron Hill voted plenty of times in opposition to keeping taxes low or to lowering them further.

In 2001, he voted twice (here and here) against the tax cuts passed in 2001 (and also against making them permanent).

As early as 1999, Baron Hill voted twice against (here and here) the Financial Freedom Act of 1999, which included (PDF warning) a 10% across-the-board cut in income tax rates, the abolition of the Alternative Minimum Tax, lower the marriage penalty in the tax code, cut capital gains taxes, abolish the Death Tax, and a 100% tax deduction for personal (non-employer-provided) health insurance costs. The bill also expanded Medical Savings Accounts, included deductions for long-term care insurance, and a deduction for anyone having to take care of an elderly family member.

Remember all of those health care tax deductions the next time that you hear Baron Hill talking about how he wants to help Hoosiers pay for the rising costs of health care. Nine years ago, when costs were much less, he could have voted to help keep them low. He didn’t.

Party Crashing

Friday, September 5th, 2008

If you saw Senator McCain’s speech last night on t.v. then you know of the left wing zealot Code Pink protesters who tried to crash the party.  But here’s the question I pose that I originally saw posted on Twitter:

Can anyone give me an example of right wing disruptions of the Democratic convention in the last thirty years?

Better yet, forty, fifty, sixty years?

Congressman Pete Hoekstra of Michigan said it best in regards to the protesters, “Code Pink/D’s who are disruptive say more about who they are than about us. They lack simple decency.”

The Maverick And The Barracuda

Friday, September 5th, 2008

Last night I posted a picture of a classic Plymouth Barracuda, in reference to GOP VP nominee Sarah Palin. So for GOP Presidential nominee John McCain, we present….

The Maverick -

That’s an earlier model Ford Maverick and it definitely looks like it can hold its own down the 1/4 mile.

Consider this a Friday open thread

Obama’s supporters display hypocrisy on infanticide

Friday, September 5th, 2008

One tactic the Left uses in defending Barack Obama’s vote against legislation that would prohibit killing a baby that survives an abortion and is born is to claim that it is “already illegal to kill a born baby in Illinois.” But did Illinois law already prohibit killing a baby who survives an abortion and is born?

Obama’s next line of defense is that laws already existed in Illinois to protect these babies. Not so: The law protected only “viable” infants. Hence the attorney general’s decision not to act against Christ Hospital.
