McCain/Palin Take Lead With Post Convention Bounce

Saturday, September 6th, 2008

The latest Zogby poll released today give Senator McCain and Governor Palin a lead nationally.  The post convention bounce has them up by four, but the race is still tight.

Via Zogby International:

The McCain/Palin ticket wins 49.7% support, compared to 45.9% backing for the Obama/Biden ticket, this latest online survey shows. Another 4.4% either favored someone else or were unsure.

49.7% 47.1%

Obama-Biden

45.9% 44.6%

Others/Not sure

4.4% 8.3%

In the two-way contest in which just McCain and Obama were mentioned in the question, the result was slightly different, with McCain leading, 48.8% to 45.7%.

Obama

In a Zogby Interactive survey conducted last weekend, just after the McCain announcement that Palin would join his ticket, McCain Palin won 47.1% support, while Obama/Biden won 44.6% support.

The interactive survey of 2,312 likely voters nationwide was conducted Sept. 5-6, 2008, and carries a margin of error of +/- 2.1 percentage points.

John Zogby went on to explain the affect Sarah Palin has added to the McCain ticket:

“Clearly, Palin is helping the McCain ticket. She has high favorability numbers, and has unified the Republican Party. The striking thing here in this poll is that McCain has pulled ahead among Catholics by double-digits. On the other hand, Palin is not helping with likely voting women who are not aligned with either political party. The undecided independent women voters decreased this week from 15% to 7%, but those women went to Obama. Palin is also helping among men, conservatives, notably with suburban and rural voters, and with frequent Wal-Mart shoppers, who tend to be “values” voters who like a good value for their money.”

Just Another Palin Smear Debunked

Saturday, September 6th, 2008

The supposed quote, as reported by the Associated Press:

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told ministry students at her former church that the United States sent troops to fight in the Iraq war on a “task that is from God.”…

“Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God,” she said. “That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God’s plan.”

The full quote (via Huffington Post, of all places):

“Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending [U.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God. That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God’s plan.”

The general gist of Palin’s remarks are not that of some sort of zealot speaking of a religious crusade, but rather seem to strike a tone that is an awful lot like this pithy (and oft-repeated and paraphrased) Lincoln quote:

“Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God’s side, for God is always right.”

Don’t hold your breath waiting for a retraction; folks in the seats on the left will claim that Abraham Lincoln was himself some sort of crusading theocratic religious zealot first.

Recycled Flags

Saturday, September 6th, 2008

Oops. The Democrats in Denver have given McCain a nice opportunity. The Republicans have managed to salvage (or recycle) 12,000 flags that were thrown away by the Democrats after their convention. What will they do with them? Well, McCain has an event today where they will be distributed. Recycled Flags

The Attack of the Balloon Drop

Saturday, September 6th, 2008

Saw this on Thursday night while clicking around between all of the channels after John McCain’s speech. It took a while to show up on YouTube, but it’s hilarious:

Andrea Mitchell, a reporter for MSNBC, happened to be on the floor of the Republican National Convention after McCain’s speech. When the balloons dropped, she was nearly buried alive by them (with, as the video seems to indicate, the help of a lot of nearby Republicans that surely just love anyone from MSNBC).

Will Obama’s record on infanticide sink Democrats?

Saturday, September 6th, 2008

Democrats in Bloomington are still screeching about my letter to the editor that was published in the Herald-Times on August 11. They are very unhappy that Obama’s extremism on “reproductive choice” has been exposed, and they are doing everything they can to discredit both the facts I presented and me personally.

Why are local Democrats so upset about this? They know that Obama’s opposition to banning infanticide is a major political liability, both nationally and in Indiana. Closer to home, Baron Hill’s endorsement of Obama in the Democratic Party’s primary is also a major liability for Hill. Outside of hyper-partisan Democrats in City Hall and the County Courthouse, I would wager Obama’s defense of infanticide is even a liability in a very liberal community like Bloomington - which is why local Democrats are throwing such a temper tantrum about it.
