have been trying to google Tully. Can,t find out his bona fides as commentator on local politics. As one who knows how the system works I have serious reservtions about this person being featured as A REPORTER. What is his personal profile? married? any kids? Any ties to Indy? We do not need another guy who snipes and uses the STAR as his pulpit, without any stake in what happens here.There are enough talking heads on TV

Josh is right, noone really knows if the bunker mentality has won this admin over. However people are talking about it as it is clear it may have or is in the process of being the mentality. The team around the mayor is lackluster and the accomplishments to date are minimal. Worse is that the structure or things “in the pipeline” is not well built for next couple years to improve the city. The dems had people in spots with angles to get things done, even if we did not agree, they got them done. We do not have the type of saavy people to get things done. It is now clear second tier Gov Daniels admin guys who left were second tier for a reason. Noone wants to talk about it but we are all thinking the same thing, there are holes and unless fixed this is going to start sinking.

My fault, I was using the general “us”. I wasn’t referring to Hoosier Access “us”. The Mayor obviously hasn’t shut us out. But we’re a known and admitted partisan entity.

I personally think that the more open an elected official is with the media (especially all kinds of media new and traditional) the better that official will be trusted and treated. That’s personal opinion, but it’s based on a lot of what I’ve seen and experienced.

i really don’t think he would do that–at least not those who are on friendly terms with him. I’ve known him for a little over a year now and nothing i know about him would suggest that he would do that to his closest supporters…

I would agree, that should the Mayor be developing a banker mentality, it is a bad idea. It would be nice if there were more news reporting options in Indy besides the Star and the IBJ, but there isn’t. So by avoiding the Star, you’re essentially cutting yourself off from the print media as the IBJ doesn’t have the subscription numbers that the Star does.

That said, I don’t know if he’s going bunker on us, but Tully’s piece sure would give that impression.

I don’t think Ballard is developing a bunker mentality. Even if he is ignoring the Indy Star does not qualify. The question is whether or not Ballard is 1) available to the citizenry (I think the answer is “yes”) and 2) if they do their job, can the press do their job? (I think the answer is “yes”)

I would argue that the only way that Tully (or the newspaper in general) would say that he was being “open” is if they came down to the Star daily with hat in hand to submit to their beatings.
