I’m not surprised in the least. I am ticked that the McCain campaign continues to operate with so little techno aplomb. I know a rant isn’t our favorite with 45 days left, but truthfully I am pulling for these guys but they need to step up

It isn’t a violation of federal law, though. Accessing of a computer in excess of your authorization is only a crime if it’s a “protected” computer, which is defined as computers which are used in interstate trade in the tens of thousands of dollars annually. This was her personal email, not her email account for state business. Larry Mendte, who Michelle Malkin references, made the mistake of hacking a business email account on a big TV station’s computer – which did meet the legal definition of “protected”

What’s more, it raises some questions about Palin. We all know that email is highly insecure. That’s why we haven’t been able to do much about spam. When you do a traceroute between two servers, you typically see eight or ten routers along the way. When you do a traceroute between your home computer and a server, you typically see ten or twelve routers along the way. A router is simply a computer running a special program. When you submit your username and password to a mail server, it’s passed as cleartext, meaning that any router along the way could grab the username and password. Any router along the way could grab the text of your emails as well.

This isn’t a big secret. Everybody and his brother is telling you that email is incredibly insecure, and you ought not use it for anything important.

So she was sending this kind of information through email? Doesn’t that make you feel all warm and comfy, knowing that she may someday be entrusted with this country’s most important secrets? Someone needs to take Ms. Palin aside and teach her about email.

Maybe Senator McCain could do that. After all, as the inventor of the Blackberry, he should be up on the technology…. (grin)

The FBI was brought in for the Steele situation, though the Democrat staffers who stole Steele’s information got nothing more than a slap on the wrist.

funny you should post this, as She Who Is Never Mentioned By Name Here By Me did the same thing to Eric Dickerson in 2006 (posted his SSN and DOB) and posted Cam Savage’s bank account information.

I recall in the case of Michael Steele not only did someone disclose his SSN, someone also posted his consumer credit report for all to see?
