With allegations spreading of ACORN’s apparent attempts at voter fraud around the country and with 105 percent of Indianapolis registered to vote (uh…105 percent? Something ain’t right there) Indiana’s top election official, Secretary of State, Todd Rokita, issued the following statement:
Secretary Rokita Calls for Election Officials to Remain Committed to Ensuring Election Integrity by Utilizing Available Methods of Verifying Voter Registrations
Indianapolis, IN (October 9, 2008) - Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita issued the following statement today regarding the use of Social Security Numbers as an appropriate and viable way to verify voter registration forms in Indiana:
“Giving Indiana voters and taxpayers the chance to participate in the fairest and most accurate election possible is my number one priority as chief election officer. I’m being made aware of instances of voter registration fraud by ACORN and others, from all corners of the state and across the country. I take these very seriously.

Last week, I wrote about a retired veteran who was assaulted from trying to protect a McCain/Palin yard sign from being destroyed by some deranged yutz. This week, a friend of the site had his house, his driveway and his McCain/Palin sign targeted by more deranged liberal pranksters, this time with eggs. Oddly, his My Man Mitch sign and his Tony Bennett sign were left untouched.
This has been an interesting week, to say the least, for ACORN. They have been in the news all over the place. And now, for Indianapolis. Daltonsbriefs beat me to the punch (writing this has taken way too long), but I will recap.
There are several articles and blog posts parsing some data for Indy. First, Brendan O’Shaughnessy of the Indy Star has an article where he identifies the number of registered voters in Marion County as 677,401 voters. OK that is fine. But, as Ogden on Politics points out the total population of Indianapolis according to Stats Indiana was 876,804 in 2007. In 2006, the non-voting age population of Indy made up 26.9% of the general population, which means that the 2007 voting age population should be somewhere around 641,000.
This means that from 2007 to 2008 there would have to be an increase of 36,000 voting age people and a 100% voter registration in order for that number to make sense. This is at a time that Stats Indiana (the same report) predicts that the population of Indianapolis will go stay flat or decrease.
Are there reasons why some people that don’t live in Indy would be on the voting roles? Yes. For example, my wife and I moved from Marion to Hamilton County about a year ago, but my wife only got her voter registration changed last week. But there is no way that you can look at 105% voter registration and think that all is OK.
Some suggest that ACORN is present here in Indianapolis (their office is at 18th and Meridian) and that we may be seeing some of their activity here.

This last week the issue of voter fraud has been percolating to the surface, initially in Ohio and now it seems quite a bit right here in Indiana. Gateway Pundit reported gross problems in Indianapolis with 105% of voters registered:
His ACORN buddies sure are doing marvelous work.
Say Anything has tally sheet.
And, still more good news for Obama… Fannie Mae funneled almost $1 million to ACORN fraud!
If you want even more, read the comments, it seems that the Obama campaign also mis-used or even stole a mailing list for some of their marketing here in Indiana. I have been wondering why today, I think I even twittered that, why Indiana? If he’s got Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Virginia all sewn up, why cheat here in Indiana?
