This is nasty stuff. Hurricane Paloma has slammed into Cuba as a category 4 storm. Granted we’ll never know the true loss there because - well Fidel and Raul Castro are in charge there. You know the socialist “Truth is Propaganda” and all that.

Anyone who listened to AM radios in cars back when that was your only option (you know - the 70’s - bell bottoms days) has likely heard this song. Or fans of Rush Limbaugh because this used to be the theme music for his “Peace Updates”

Consider this an open thread.

This Frank Gray column caught my eye this morning in the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette about a Decatur businessman who has flown his flag upside down since Tuesday’s election victory for President-Elect Obama.

None of this attracted much attention until, shortly after Tuesday’s election, Townsend hoisted the flag, which has long flown in front of his shop, in the upside-down position, a distress signal protesting the election of Barack Obama and Joseph Biden.

It didn’t take long for the reaction to come. A 17-year employee told Townsend he was quitting. The phone calls started, about 300 in the past few days.

Almost all have been in support, Townsend said, but some clearly weren’t. Shortly after noon Friday, a woman called to raise hell with the employee who answered. There was no mistaking what the call was about.

No, the female employee said, it has nothing to do with the fact that Obama is black. It’s about abortion. Obama is a supporter of abortion, and the business owner is absolutely opposed to it, period.

The call dragged on for several minutes, and it wasn’t friendly.

Then Townsend, who had been tied up on another call, hung up and explained himself.

Some have protested that flying the flag upside down is a desecration, but it’s not, he says, and firmly so, pointing to a printout of flag regulations.

An upside-down flag is a distress signal, indicating that people’s lives or property are in danger. With the election of Obama and Biden, lives are in danger: all the unborn babies that will die as the result of abortion.

And property is at stake. The recent bailout wasn’t a bailout of the American people, he said. It was the bailout of a bankrupt and foreign-owned Federal Reserve system.

The Indy Star now reports that the businessman has decided to take down his flag.

Side note … while googling to find a photo of an upside flag, I found this interesting article about Democrats using the “flag in distress” signal at the DNC Convention earlier this summer on their credential badges.

Tuesday night was very bad for Monroe County Republicans, as we lost even more ground. We went from a 2-1 Democratic majority on the Board of Commissioners to a 3-0 Democratic monopoly, lost the Treasurer’s Office and were unable to regain the Auditor’s Office. Not a single Republican won a contested race in Monroe, and I am guessing the Democrats are kicking themselves for not challenging Judge Kenneth Todd.

What a turnaround this was from 2002, when the Republicans won 3 of 4 district seats on the County Council for a 5-2 majority and unseated an incumbent Democratic County Commissioner for a 2-1 majority. Even Bloomington Mayor John Fernandez lost his home county to Todd Rokita in the Secretary of State contest. Two years before that, we won 2 of 3 at-large seats on the County Council (and very nearly swept all three) and unseated an incumbent Democratic Surveyor.

Looking at the Secretary of State’s website it seems as the canvass is Sen. McCain’s favor - Two counties which are obviously blue this time - Marion and Monroe have yet to report to the SoS along with Posey County in SW Indiana.

Obama, Barack Joe Biden (Democratic) 1080584
McCain, John Sarah Palin (Republican) 1180102

Difference of 99,518.

The margin in Marion County was 106,582 according to Marion County Clerk Beth White’s office. I’m not sure what the margin in Monroe will be and I can’t imagine there being over 5000 votes magically appear in favor of McCain.

Though Beth White managed to find 1500 votes on a misaligned vote card from Pike Township that ensured Angela Mansfield won her City-County Council seat over GOP newcomer Bruce Schumacher but I digress…

I know I’ll be chastised for this but I think we in the GOP left a lot on the table on Election Night. There were a lot of GOP votes in that 46% that didn’t turn out in Marion County.
