Inside Government

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Normally we don’t shill for other blogs here, but I believe a new one that recently started called Inside Government is one worth mentioning (and yes I do happen to write for it.  Is that why I’m shilling for it?  Not exactly.).  Inside Government is a collaborative effort of bloggers from around the country, in a non-partisan fashion, who are concerned about those who may not exactly know everything about government and how it operates.  A couple of examples are:

Now if you check this site, you  may know that stuff.  Then again you may not or may have a flawed perspective on certain aspects of government.  As one of the founders of IG wrote on his site:

“Inside Government was formed, in an effort to become the primary source for anyone wishing to become more involved in government and /or politics but who are just not sure where to begin.”

RNC Chair Frontrunners Steele, Duncan, Newt

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

*Update* - According to Foxnews.com Newt is out and is Steele is definitely in.  Steele is working with Newt to secure his support.  The article also names former Mike Huckabee campaign manager Chip Saltsman as one who is seeking out the RNC Chairmanship.

Interesting article from the Washington Times giving the breakdown of the battle to become the next RNC Chair.  The article details the apparent battle between Newt Gingrich and former Maryland LG Michael Steele.  It aslo does not rule out current Chairman Mike Duncan, noting that he was very accomplished at raising funds for the RNC and specifically John McCain and Sarah Palin after they accepted public funds for their campaign.

Michael Steele came away with the money quote of the article however, when explaining what the next chairman needs:

“I believe that the RNC ought to recruit a superstar,” Mr. Steel said in a dear colleague letter to other RNC members. “That superstar should have the following qualities:

- instant media recognition and credibility;

- knowledge of where and how to raise money;

- the ability to convince members of Congress to take visionary pro-growth and pro-family stands, that when some members act like Democrats they do a great disservice to the party’s brand.”

One might conclude that he’s talking about Newt Gingrich since Steele’s name recognition outside of GOP circles and the Beltway is relatively low despite his run for a Maryland Senate Seat two years ago. The fact is, Steele was a solid fundraiser in a Democrat year, and gave the incumbent Senator he was running against a run for his money. Recently, he has been Chairman of GOPAC which was founded by former Delaware Gov. Pete du Pont as a national candidate recruitment and training organization for state and local offices.

What’s Newt’s take on the whole thing?

Veterans Day 2008

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

As always, we pause a couple times every year to remember the veterans of the Armed Forces of the United States. Today we recognize all veterans of the Armed Forces on the anniversary of the Armistice, which was the end of WW1. Previous generations of Americans referred to today as “Armistice Day”.

So if you know a Veteran, tell them thanks for their service to our nation.

I’d like to take this time to thank my now passed maternal grandfather, who served as a 1st Sgt. in the United States Army stateside during WW2.

I’d also like to thank a friend of all Republicans, “Pony Tail” Paul Cauley for his service to our country during the Vietnam War.

Lastly, We would like to thank the Mayor of Indianapolis, Lt. Col. Greg Ballard, USMC (ret.) for his service to our country in the Corps and his continued service to the City of Indianapolis.

Feel free to give your thanks to veterans who matter to you the most in the comments…
