For my first nomination, Sarah Palin.  Can we think of anyone else?  I think most Indy 500 drivers, a few professional football players, perhaps even an actor or two would qualify.

For some background, from Hotline:

Bayh went home just 20 times in the last 2 years for which records are available — including just 7 trips home in ‘08. The NRSC has signaled it will also challenge whether it is appropriate for Bayh’s wife to be sitting on corporate boards, and to be raking in hundreds of thousands of dollars in the process.

Election Day is exciting in that it is the culmination of sometimes 4 years of work (or in Brown’s case 4 months).  It’s also horrible because there just isn’t a whole lot more that we can do.

So, for some of us it’s the most boring day of the Election.  So I’m stuck worrying or trying to divine meaning from simple things like this:

This means I’m alternatively excited and discouraged about the race.  One minute I’m ready to declare Scott Brown already elected, another I remember how Barack Obama was leading Hillary Clinton by 10 points going into New Hampshire in 2008.  We all know how that worked out.

In the meantime the national media has arrived at our downtown hotel headquarters.  This is also the place where we will be holding our victory celebration.  Carl Cameron of Fox News is down in the lobby.  Cameras are being set up in the ballroom as well.

In the meantime, there is a great National Review article about Scott’s schedule for today.

After only 4 months on the campaign trail the guy from Wrentham who drives a truck may just become a US Senator- as a Republican in MA.

It’s snowing in Boston, where I’m set up at the campaign’s temporary headquarters in a downtown hotel.  Right now the focus is on getting out the vote in this low turnout special election.  Over 500 Brown volunteers are on the phone calling supporters (not including the thousands from across the country who have signed up to call online).

In addition, the Brown campaign has been closely watching all voting today to make sure that each individual’s right to vote is preserved- and not diminished by fraudulent voters.  We’ve already witnessed some election shenanigans that we hope don’t effect the ultimate outcome.

I’ll try to keep you all updated throughout the day.

One of the worst things for the wide-eyed enthusiasm I used to have for politics was becoming a professional consultant.   After your 100th campaign they all start running together.

But then every once in a while you get to see and do something historic.

I didn’t know it when I built a website in October for Scott Brown, Republican candidate for US Senate in Massachusetts.  In fact, I thought that perhaps I had as much chance of becoming US Senator in MA than Scott.  Even though he was everything a candidate (and future US Senator) should be, this was Massachusetts.  Only 11% of the state is registered Republican.

But now the Scott Brown mania is literally overwhelming.  I can honestly say that I have never been a part of a more exciting campaign.  The volunteer centers are packed with MA residents waiting in line to make calls.  The Brown campaign can’t print yard signs fast enough to hand them out.  As a result, so many people have made their own signs that a local news station actually did a story on people going to Kinko’s and other office stores to do it.

And as for our world, we’ve helped Brown raise millions online and have opened up envelopes with letters from old ladies with $5 bills in them.  I’m so overwhelmed by how Brown has captured the imagination of normal MA residents and inspired them to put one of their own in office.

We’ve also helped the campaign by bringing in 210 VOIP phones for volunteers to make calls from.  I’ll post some pictures later, but it’s about as wild as I could ever have imagined.

But most importantly, victory is in the air.  We are going to win this thing.  We are going to put a Republican in office in Massachusetts.  Not a liberal Maine Republican either… an honest to goodness regular guy who has the common sense to help lead our country.

Count me reminded why I started doing this stuff 10 years ago.
