Buyer Expands Lead, Closing the Door

Friday, October 24th, 2008

Congressman Steve Buyer released his campaign fundraising results revealing he continues to hold a huge 800 to 1 cash advantage. Yeah, 800 to 1.

The report showed that Steve Buyer has $816,625 in cash on hand compared Nels Ackerson who had $1,446 for the period between October 1st and October 15th.

According to the FEC report filed October 23, 2008 which covers the period of October 1 – October 15, 2008:
Cash on Hand:
Ackerson: $51,446 (also shows $50,000 in debts)
Buyer: $816,625

Congressman Buyer’s campaign manger, Jon Clark had this to say:

Talk About Your Fred Sanford Moments…

Monday, October 20th, 2008

You know the routine. Fred Sanford clutches his chest and look upwards as he scream “Hear that ‘Lizabeth? I’m coming to join ya honey!”

Well, that’s about the reaction I had when I saw the Ryerson Rag actually endorsed the Republican candidate for Southern Indiana’s 9th Congressional District.

Under the Radar - A Battle Between Myths and Facts

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Did you know that there was a congressional debate here in Indiana this past week?  With all the hubub surrounding the Democrat National Convention, and then Senator McCain’s VP announcement, it was pretty easy for it to slip through the cracks.

But this past Thursday, Congressman Steve Buyer and challenger Nels Ackerson had a debate….the same night as Obama’s speech.  I wonder why Ackerson wasn’t with his fellow Democrats in Denver whooping it up and crying tears of joy at the very site of Obama?  Oh that’s right.  So he could spread falsehoods in a debate.  There were so many, the Buyer camp had to issue a lengthy press release just to clarify all of Akerson’s myths.

Buyer Campaign Sets Record Straight

Brownsburg, IN – Today Congressman Steve Buyer’s Campaign is setting the record straight on some of the distortions and inaccuracies that Nels Ackerson made against the Congressman’s record during Thursday’s night debate and at other appearances.

MYTH: Buyer has introduced his pro-drilling bill to benefit the oil companies and only for political purposes. Buyer has been in Congress for 16 years so why is he now just doing something about the energy crisis?

FACT:

Congressman Buyer has always supported drilling and incentives for alternative fuels and in fact:

· 91% of House Republicans have historically voted to increase the production of American-made oil and gas

· 86% of House Democrats have historically voted against increasing the production of American-made oil and gas.

· Oil price is largely a function of supply and demand. Most experts agree that if we increase supply here at home and increase our refinery capabilities consumers would benefit. Steve Buyer’s plan, H.R. 6001, is a comprehensive energy policy that includes drilling along with support for the research and development of additional alternative fuels like clean coal, ethanol, bio-fuels, and others.

· The Congressman’s opponent seems content to force Hoosier families and American families more broadly to pay higher gas prices.
· Buyer’s legacy of involvement in alternative fuels dates back to his earliest days in office. Steve Buyer was backing alternative fuels while his opponent was making millions as a Washington D.C. trial lawyer.

Nels Ackerson’s campaign is falling apart

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Believe it or not, there are a few other Congressional Races going on in Indiana…

Let’s take a look at the race involving my friend and Congressman, Steve Buyer.

You may remember that the slick D.C. Trial Lawyer Nels Ackerson who is running against Steve Buyer in the Fourth District had some problems a few weeks ago with attendance and general apathy about his campaign.

Remember the guy who held a press conference in Zionsville attacking Persian Gulf War Veteran Steve Buyer’s record of support for veterans despite the fact that only a half dozen supporters were in attendance and none of them were press?

Well, he continues to have these problems except this time it is much worse.
A “friend” has recently reported to me that Nels held a press conference on his pledge for government accountability that not only did no press show up but no supporters showed up as well.

Darn, that’s twice. Luck like that don’t come all that often Nels.

I was told that Nels held this press conference in the UAW hall across the street from Allison Transmissions and the only people sitting in the 50 empty chairs in the large union hall was him, former Congressman Andy Jacobs who was going to introduce Nels, three members of Nels’ staff, and an obviously embarrassed Nels Ackerson.
