Today word came out that the House GOP Conference has just adopted a complete earmark ban for the rest of the year in order to curb spending and hold the Democrats accountable.

Here are what some members of the Republican Study Committee are saying, with two of them being a part of the Indiana Delegation.

Rep. Dan Burton (IN-5)

Because of the irresponsible spending and public outrage over largess in Congress, I have sworn to not request, and to vote against, earmarks since 2007.  Until today, I was one of just thirty-two members of Congress to take that pledge.  Today, with the entire conference of House Republicans adopting our ban on all earmarks, we have sent a clear message to the American people that we are serious about cutting spending, and serious about an ethical appropriations process in Congress

Rep. Mike Pence (IN-6)

No doubt earmarks are being talked about in a different way by the democratic majority. Democrats were cutting “backroom deals” to persuade reluctant House Democrats to vote for the president’s proposal, and said “the American people want us to change business as usual.

Rep. Eric Cantor (VA-7)

Democrats’ promises to clean up Washington politics “is being broken every day.”

Rep. John Boehner (OH-8)

For millions of Americans, the earmark process in Congress has become a symbol of a broken Washington, Today House Republicans took an important step toward showing the American people we’re serious about reform by adopting an immediate, unilateral ban on all earmarks.

You can read the full article here from The Daily Caller and here is the list of t the 32 members in the Republican Study Committee that signed unto this total earmark ban.

Come back to Hoosier Access tonight for a Live Blog of President Obama’s State of the Union address to Congress. See you all at 9:00pm!

State of the Union Address

I had the opportunity to sit down with Jud McMillin (R) this past Friday in downtown Indianapolis to discuss his campaign for Indiana State House District 68 against Bob Bischoff (D). This district includes towns of Lawrenceburg, Brookville and Greendale. You can see the map of HD 68 here.

Get to know Jud:

Born and raised in Southern Indiana, Jud McMillin understands the values that are important to the people of our area. Jud graduated from Franklin County High School, where he excelled as both a student and an athlete. Since graduating from college with a bachelors degree in economics and earning his law degree, he has returned home and continues to be a leader who cares about his community. When Jud is not working for local clients throughout Southern Indiana at his family law practice, he continues to play a role in sports serving as a coach on baseball and football teams in addition to remaining active in numerous community projects. Jud believes that we waste too much time and too much money in our state, and will be a strong leader fighting for all of us at the State House. He knows that if we want to change the way the legislature handles our money and our values, we need to change our vote.

Goals for HD 68?

Starting this week we at Hoosier Access will be presenting to you a new weekly write up called Candidate Monday. Beginning this Monday and every Monday after, their will be a profile of each Republican Candidate who is running for the House of Representatives for the State of Indiana.

Each Monday we will include the Candidates bio, goals, their purpose for running and their future for the State of Indiana. We look forward to presenting these Candidates to you and to give you an insight into each one of them.

Each post will also contain contact information for the Candidate, so you can find out more about each one and how you can become a vital part of their campaign. Each one of these Candidates are going to be working very hard to get into the State House and we need to do whatever we can to help them and the Republican Party regain control of the House again.

I would also encourage you to follow and read Frugal Hoosiers and their Road to 51 project. They have been working hard on this project and we are just another source for you and to help you make the right decisions. I believe we all need to work together in a time like this.

This past week 5th Congressional District hopeful Luke Messer held a press conference with only (16) sixteen people and two children present and announced he had hundreds and hundreds of supporters. Now I looked down the list and it is full of insiders, former State Party employees, former Mitch for Governor Campaign staffers, a few state legislators and a number of others.

Let’s take a look at Luke Messer, he was once the Executive Director of the State of Indiana Republican Party, a former Legislator turned lobbyist and a former partner at the law firm Ice Miller. Most of his supporters are people who used to work for him and with him at Ice Miller and the Indiana State Republican Party. This is full of insiders and most of them don’t even live in the 5th Congressional District and want a voice in this race?

After Luke’s press release this past week Brose McVey went on the attack for this “insider” and buddy buddy system” and he asked the voters if they have “Had enough”? He states this from his recent press release:

“Now, I don’t have any trouble on the personal level with these guys or their backers.  I know them, like them, respect their service. But, if you are like me, you’ve had enough of the insider baseball, the money politics and the buddy-buddy system!

I have to agree with him on this, I’m not saying that Luke Messer is a bad person, I believe in his family values and his willingness to serve his country, but when you leave office to become a lobbyist at a huge Indianapolis Law firm and want to come back into office and have your buddies back you….that concerns voters and I personally think they are tired of it.

Today State Senate hopeful Jim Banks received an endorsement from State Rep Jackie Walorski. She had this to say about Jim and his strong Conservative Values:

From Indiana conservative leader State Representative Jackie Walorski :

“Jim Banks is the real deal when it comes to conservative champions in the State of Indiana. He works tirelessly with a passion rarely seen in politics. If we want to maintain our traditional Midwestern values we  are going to need people like Jim representing us. His energy and enthusiasm will help Indiana  usher in a new generation of conservative leaders to the General Assembly.”

Congrats to Jim for receiving this endorsement. She is correct in her assessment on Jim and his strong Conservative Values. If you would like to know more about Jim and his State Senate run you can go to his website here.
