Starting this week we at Hoosier Access will be presenting to you a new weekly write up called Candidate Monday. Beginning this Monday and every Monday after, their will be a profile of each Republican Candidate who is running for the House of Representatives for the State of Indiana.

Each Monday we will include the Candidates bio, goals, their purpose for running and their future for the State of Indiana. We look forward to presenting these Candidates to you and to give you an insight into each one of them.

Each post will also contain contact information for the Candidate, so you can find out more about each one and how you can become a vital part of their campaign. Each one of these Candidates are going to be working very hard to get into the State House and we need to do whatever we can to help them and the Republican Party regain control of the House again.

I would also encourage you to follow and read Frugal Hoosiers and their Road to 51 project. They have been working hard on this project and we are just another source for you and to help you make the right decisions. I believe we all need to work together in a time like this.

Tomorrow we will bring you Luke Abbott

According to Roll Call The GOP has Big Hoosier Dreams in next year’s election. With Todd Young (R) running against Rep. Baron “You’re not tell me how to run my congressional office” Hill (D) in the 9th Congressional District. You also have State Rep. Jackie Walorski (R) considering a run against Rep. Donnelly (D) in the 2nd Congressional District as well. Ellsworth’s District which we all know as the Bloody 8th is being looked at as well, but insiders say that would be the hardest to take back, because he has won 61 percent of the vote every time.

Here is the article (note…I am posting this because if you don’t have a Roll Call account you cannot read the full stories…so here ya go and if you don’t have an account…get one, well worth the money!)

GOP Has Big Hoosier Dreams Next Year

In an attempt to recover the three Indiana seats they lost in the 2006 cycle, House Republicans are again setting their sights on the Hoosier State.

After failing to give any Indiana Democrat a tough challenge last cycle, Republicans already have a candidate in place against Rep. Baron Hill and said they are on the verge of recruiting competitive candidates to run against Democratic Reps. Joe Donnelly and Brad Ellsworth.

During a recent bout of insomnia, I decided to have some fun with the WHOIS database, a nifty listing of who owns a given domain name and when they bought it (among other things). Because of the importance of the internet in modern politics, and the cheap cost of registering a domain name, politicians and campaigns frequently register their domain names far in advance of any official campaign declaration.

So, being bored and unable to sleep, I started punching in combinations based around potential gubernatorial candidates for the 2012 race. A study, if you will, in the advance web positioning of potential gubernatorial candidates.

For each candidate, I tried a variety of similar combinations:

joesmith.com
smithforgovernor.com
joesmithforgovernor.com
joesmithforindiana.com
smith2012.com
joesmith2012.com
hoosiersforjoe.com
hoosiersforsmith.com

It’s an interesting exercise, to be sure. It might not catch everyone (Mitch Daniels’ campaign website was mymanmitch.com, for example, which you wouldn’t find with any of the above searches), but I figured that the results should be interesting, so I set out searching.

Because this study was an exercise in boredom rather than some exhaustive academic research, I tried to limit myself to the first eight or nine people for each party that came to mind when running the search.

Press Release from Bob Heaton for State Representative:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Wednesday, August 6, 2008

INCUMBENT USES TAXPAYER DOLLARS FOR SELF-PROMOTION

Terre Haute – It has recently been discovered that incumbent State Representative Vern Tincher has used taxpayer dollars to aide his campaign. Just last week, a well produced mail piece praising Tincher’s record on illegal immigration control was sent to voters in House District 46. The mail piece was paid by the Indiana House of Representatives and included an Indianapolis return address.

I have the pleasure of moderating a candidate forum in Kendallville for the many candidates who have announced their intentions to run in the caucus to replace State Representative Marlin Stutzman on the ballot as he moves on to take Senator Bob Meeks place in the state senate. If you’re in northern Indiana, please stop by. Details belows.

Right to Life groups host forum for candidates running in House District 52 caucus.

Fort Wayne, IN — Precinct committee leaders who will choose a candidate to replace Representative Marlin Stutzman on the November ballot have been invited to meet with candidates who will run in a special caucus on Monday, June 23rd. The caucus will fill the vacancy created when Stutzman was chosen to replace Senator Bob Meeks, who resigned after the Primary. The Forum is hosted by Northeast Indiana Right to Life, Indiana Right to Life and Allen County Right to Life. Cathie Humbarger, Communications Director for Indiana Right to Life and Executive Director of Allen County Right to Life, said, “It is incumbent on those of us who are committed to defending innocent human life and the family to hear from candidates who are running for office. This is even more important in these special circumstances when the campaign is short and opportunities to get to know the candidates are limited. It’s a privilege to sponsor this Forum for the benefit of all concerned.” The Forum will include statements from the candidates and questions from the floor. Topics of discussion are not limited to pro-life issues and will include any legislative concerns.

73161_websm.jpgCarlin Yoder, Republican candidate in the open state senate primary in district 12, is set to receive a major endorsement on Friday at a campaign kick-off rally in Goshen. State Representative Marlin Stutzman (R-Howe), who is well known for his pro-life and conservative record in the Indiana General Assembly, will endorse Yoder on Friday at a kick-off rally at The Refinery at 5pm.

Yoder announced his candidacy last week. This race, like the senate primary in district 18, promises to be a race to watch as three political unknowns run to succeed Senator Marvin Riegsecker who is retiring at the end of his term this year.

Yoder’s Bio:

Carlin Yoder

Middlebury resident Carlin Yoder recently announced his candidacy for the Indiana District 12 Senate seat being vacated by Senator Marvin Riegsecker. A life-long resident of Elkhart County, Carlin is passionate about his district and will work hard to solve the pressing issues of property tax relief, growing illegal immigration issues and the restoration of family values within the community.

Carlin is a natural leader who inspires others to strive for excellence, both by example and communication. He is currently the Administrator at Clinton Christian School, where he has made numerous positive changes since accepting that role. He has raised enrollment, built camaraderie with employees and students and guided the school through a million dollar gymnasium project, which was completed in January.

Carlin is also experienced in business and along with his wife, owns Danceworks Academy, located near Middlebury. Married for 14 years, Carlin and his wife Jayme have 3 children, Caitlin, 13, Logan 6, and Quinn, 2. They are also in the process of adopting their fourth child. They actively attend Sugar Grove Church and are very involved in the community.

Politically, Carlin is resolved in providing an authentic conservative voice to the core issues that need solutions in Indiana. He is pro-life and is very supportive of the state marriage amendment. In regard to Property Tax relief, Carlin believes that Indiana must begin working toward the elimination of this tax, taking steps to replace its growing burden on homeowners and businesses through assessment caps and the use of spending cuts. He also supports immigration reform and will strive to find a sensible solution to this growing problem in a way that will not hurt businesses but works toward upholding our sensible immigration laws.

Carlin Yoder is a person who will work hard in the Indiana State Senate, providing conservatism that is needed in making the decisions that will profoundly affect the state of Indiana. He is principled, strong, and ready for this challenge.
