Congressman Steve Buyer released his campaign fundraising results revealing he continues to hold a huge 800 to 1 cash advantage. Yeah, 800 to 1.
The report showed that Steve Buyer has $816,625 in cash on hand compared Nels Ackerson who had $1,446 for the period between October 1st and October 15th.
According to the FEC report filed October 23, 2008 which covers the period of October 1 – October 15, 2008:
Cash on Hand:
Ackerson: $51,446 (also shows $50,000 in debts)
Buyer: $816,625
Congressman Buyer’s campaign manger, Jon Clark had this to say:

Lately, I have been putting up with all the negative campaiging from Nels Ackerson, talking about how bad Steve Buyer is and how he’s turned his back on Indiana.
Indiana Farm Bureau endorses Buyer
Congressman Steve Buyer (R-IN04) formally received the endorsement of the Indiana Farm Bureau ELECT PAC for Indiana’s Fourth Congressional District.Indiana Farm Bureau President Don Villwock released the following statement, “Congressman Buyer has had an outstanding voting record on Farm Bureau issues. He has been with us in the past and we look forward to working with Steve Buyer in the next Congress.”
Veterans of Foreign Wars Endorses Buyer
The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) PAC has pledged their continued support for Congressman Steve Buyer (R-IN04) by endorsing him for re-election. In their letter to Buyer, the VFW stated that their endorsement “is based on your strong support for veterans, national security/defense, and military personal issues.”
You know the routine. Fred Sanford clutches his chest and look upwards as he scream “Hear that ‘Lizabeth? I’m coming to join ya honey!”
Well, that’s about the reaction I had when I saw the Ryerson Rag actually endorsed the Republican candidate for Southern Indiana’s 9th Congressional District.

Did you know that there was a congressional debate here in Indiana this past week? With all the hubub surrounding the Democrat National Convention, and then Senator McCain’s VP announcement, it was pretty easy for it to slip through the cracks.
But this past Thursday, Congressman Steve Buyer and challenger Nels Ackerson had a debate….the same night as Obama’s speech. I wonder why Ackerson wasn’t with his fellow Democrats in Denver whooping it up and crying tears of joy at the very site of Obama? Oh that’s right. So he could spread falsehoods in a debate. There were so many, the Buyer camp had to issue a lengthy press release just to clarify all of Akerson’s myths.
Buyer Campaign Sets Record Straight
Brownsburg, IN – Today Congressman Steve Buyer’s Campaign is setting the record straight on some of the distortions and inaccuracies that Nels Ackerson made against the Congressman’s record during Thursday’s night debate and at other appearances.
MYTH: Buyer has introduced his pro-drilling bill to benefit the oil companies and only for political purposes. Buyer has been in Congress for 16 years so why is he now just doing something about the energy crisis?
FACT:
Congressman Buyer has always supported drilling and incentives for alternative fuels and in fact:
· 91% of House Republicans have historically voted to increase the production of American-made oil and gas
· 86% of House Democrats have historically voted against increasing the production of American-made oil and gas.
· Oil price is largely a function of supply and demand. Most experts agree that if we increase supply here at home and increase our refinery capabilities consumers would benefit. Steve Buyer’s plan, H.R. 6001, is a comprehensive energy policy that includes drilling along with support for the research and development of additional alternative fuels like clean coal, ethanol, bio-fuels, and others.
· The Congressman’s opponent seems content to force Hoosier families and American families more broadly to pay higher gas prices.
· Buyer’s legacy of involvement in alternative fuels dates back to his earliest days in office. Steve Buyer was backing alternative fuels while his opponent was making millions as a Washington D.C. trial lawyer.(There’s a very lengthy list of “facts” that Ackerson got wrong about Buyer after the leap) (more…)
Believe it or not, there are a few other Congressional Races going on in Indiana…
Let’s take a look at the race involving my friend and Congressman, Steve Buyer.
You may remember that the slick D.C. Trial Lawyer Nels Ackerson who is running against Steve Buyer in the Fourth District had some problems a few weeks ago with attendance and general apathy about his campaign.
Remember the guy who held a press conference in Zionsville attacking Persian Gulf War Veteran Steve Buyer’s record of support for veterans despite the fact that only a half dozen supporters were in attendance and none of them were press?
Well, he continues to have these problems except this time it is much worse.
A “friend” has recently reported to me that Nels held a press conference on his pledge for government accountability that not only did no press show up but no supporters showed up as well.
Darn, that’s twice. Luck like that don’t come all that often Nels.
I was told that Nels held this press conference in the UAW hall across the street from Allison Transmissions and the only people sitting in the 50 empty chairs in the large union hall was him, former Congressman Andy Jacobs who was going to introduce Nels, three members of Nels’ staff, and an obviously embarrassed Nels Ackerson.

Democrats seem eager for Nels Ackerson to debate Steve Buyer in every county in the 4th District.
They don’t seem so eager for Baron Hill to debate Mike Sodrel in every county in the 9th District.
I can’t help but wonder the reason for the inconsistency.
(And, for the record, I think that Buyer should debate his opponent; Ackerson is a liberal beltway carpetbagger, and Buyer would own him in a debate.)

Anyone care to explain to me why Nancy Pelosi and her cadre of Democrat misfits (who we, unfortunately have to refer to as the majority in the House) would leave Congress for a paid five week vacation without doing anything regarding the energy crisis? But wait! Nancy and misfits may have left, the Republicans have stayed behind even though Nancy turned out the lights.
Jeff Emanuel reports from Red State:
Hoping that the nation’s energy problem will go away if they just go home and ignore it for a few weeks, the Democrats have voted to adjourn early, turned off the lights in the lower chamber, and are trying to lock the doors to make sure no business can be done until September.
The fly in the ointment? Fifteen or so House Republicans, led by Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH), refused to leave the floor, where — after the Democrats turned off the lights and the microphones — they continuied talking gas prices and energy solutions, which the House was scheduled to do this afternoon already before Pelosi, et al declared an early adjournment..
Pelosi is currently trying to have the press gallery cleared and the doors locked, but Rep. Bunt, Shadegg, and Hoekstra have been taking turns remaining with media in the gallery in order to keep it open.
At one point, Shadegg “figured out how to get the lights and microphones back on,” a House insider tells me — but they have since been shut off once again.
It seems as if Republicans are the only ones taking this issue seriously and Hoosiers have been up front and center at working towards solutions. Congressmen Buyer and Burton have legislation working towards drilling and other methods of energy independence and relief, Congressman Pence is urging a special session to deal with the mess Democrats have left behind to ignore while on a taxpayer funded vacation and Republican candidates for Congress Luke Puckett, Mike Sodrel and Greg Goode have actually gone to ANWR to see for themselves the truth behind domestic drilling. What are the Democrats doing?
Taking a vacation.

If a cash prize of ten million bucks is enough incentive to for private industry to put a man in space, then a few hundred million in prizes can probably do wonders for hastening the development of new technologies when it comes to energy.
From WIBC:
Fourth District Representative Steve Buyer is trying to rally public pressure on Congress to open up more land for oil drilling.
In a series of Indiana appearances, Buyer is talking up a bill he filed in May to do exactly that. The eight-term Republican says more drilling would bring prices down even before any oil starts moving, because OPEC nations and the futures market would respond to the shift in policy.
Buyer says the nation needs a comprehensive energy strategy, including the pursuit of biofuels, solar and wind power, nuclear power, and conservation. But he says the U-S should use existing energy sources now, while waiting for alternatives to come online.
He’s also endorsing similar suggestions from Republican presidential nominee John McCain and former GOP Congressman Mike Sodrel to offer cash prizes for researchers who deliver energy breakthroughs.
